TPC Sawgrass greens in rough shape week before Players
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – A little more than a week before the PGA Tour’s flagship event, at least five of the greens at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass are less than championship ready.

Nos. 4, 9, 11, 12 and 14 were “negatively impacted by (a) misapplication of a product to help manage density and root development during the colder, winter period,” according to a memo that was posted on a Tour-players only website on March 27.

The Tour spokesman declined to comment at this time.

Nearly two weeks of warm, dry conditions have helped the greens recover, but the putting surfaces at Nos. 4, 9, 11 and 12 continue to show damage and the grass plugs used to replace turf.

The Tour began using temporary greens on March 28 at the fourth, ninth, 11th, 12th and 14th holes and the Stadium Course was closed on April 14 to speed the recovery, but one Tour player who made a trip to the home of next week’s Players Championship said, “they were awful.”

On a players-only memo dated April 23, the Tour said the MiniVerde greens “experienced a setback this winter and are being managed for full recovery,” but made no mention of the product that damaged the turf or whether practice rounds for next week’s event will be impacted.

GolfChannel.com toured the course on Tuesday and discovered a 10-foot square section of the fourth and 12th greens and a 6-foot square area of the ninth green was still recovering.

The situation is aggravated by the fact these are some of the Stadium Course’s smallest putting surfaces and may limit the number of available hole locations for the tournament.

Tee boxes, fairways, rough and practice areas were not damaged, although the memo on March 27 said, “the practice putting greens are experiencing the same conditions as the Stadium Course greens.”

    Quail hollow.

Westwood is -1 through 10 after being plus 3 through 4. Rory had a -3 earlier to place well.

19 inches short of an albatross on the 5th according the shot tracker.

Edit* Never mind... usual errors of shot tracker. Got the birdie however.

    Very disappointing from McIlroy.
For a guy with such natural talent, he should be contending regularly not settling for this stuff.

With 2 par 5's, some shooting. Ernie's -5 will see him make the cut also.

Some craic out of Coltart there on the shot centre. Is Holmes a bit of a dour character? Both Roe and Coltart constantly ribbing him.

Even a repeat of 2010's 62 might not be enough for Rory but hopefully he can follow up yesterday with another decent round

Greens still an issue for The Players this week at Sawgrass - Sawgrass closes three greens for Monday practice

Early on in the round JB was not looking too confident. He made an OK approach shot to the green on maybe 4 or 5 and then glared to his right and said something after the shot, as if someone made an noise and he was letting them know he was not happy.

Was is Flores or his caddy?

JB goes on to make a long birdie putt on the hole I think, and then strangely shakes hands with Flores as if all was forgiven.

What I found interesting about this is that form that point on Flores' game went to $h1t.

    Anybody see this?

    Phil's putting lol.

Fairly quiet in here tonight considering The Players is on. Think The PGA Tour is suffering this year without a big name dominating.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat isn't playing this weekend.

Followed Sergio for a few holes today, it's like his eye just suits the course, he hits it both ways really really well, his high draw is class to see live. Followed Phil for a few, course doesn't suit him at all. He wasn't having a good time of it today. ****ers wont let ya take any photos once your on the ground, had to walk back to my car with the camera ha ha
