I'm playing Crash Bandicoot at the moment. Some of the level design is just downright rubbish with lots of levels full of dickmoves (looking at all the misty bridge levels) with no flow. There's some good levels though the bosses are fairly crappy with ropey hit detection on some.

Still playing it though. There's some fun to be extracted from it. I'd also forgotten how short a game it is.

Ah, it was early days for 3D platforming... they made up for shortcomings in CB2!

My first ever 3D game was Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. Was so difficult to get used to walking with depth! You'd find it hilarious if you saw how long it took me to cross a simple log over lava, was like a precise operation!

Started Dark Souls 2 and got a good 3 hours in last night. Fantastic stuff, really loving it and can see myself being hooked until it's done.

Just one thing annoying me though - this whole thing about having your HP reduced every time you die.

It looks to be a lot easier to get effigies in this to reverse Hollow state but still, it kind of takes something away from the run in - die - repeat thing Dark Souls had going for it.

You get an item later on that caps that at 75%.

I actually wish it kept the 50% thing. It's an interesting mechanic at the start and reminded me of Demon's souls. When it's capped at 75% it doesn't make much of a difference really since you're dead in 2-3 hits anyway (well with my glass cannon character it was).

Word of warning, don't waste effigies. They are very hard to come by and are needed for one of the best covenants in the game which accesses a secret boss.

So the maximum reduction is 50%? ahhh, I didn't realize.

I'd gotten to a point where I was nearly afraid to explore anywhere at risk of dying an my HP dropping further.

Are effigies really that hard to find? I found a seller who sells them for 1500 souls. Was hoping she'd have an unlimited supply!

As soon as I ever hear 'limited supply' I go into Resident Evil mode :(

You really should be in resident evil mode with them. I used them only in a limited capacity for some co-op. When I did the covenant that requires them I had 2 left.

Now there is a way to cheat the system. You'll get a ring later on that will break when you die but you will keep your souls and your human status. You can just repair it for 3000 souls. However if you use it you're a gollum ring using swine... like Johnny_Ultimate.

Fired up the N64 to make sure Majora's Mask was working etc...despite using svideo, it looks horrendous on a 42" plasma. I remember using it on a 21" CRT a while back & it looked pretty well. There's no way I could play it on the flat panel, so will have to find space for the small crt again.

I regret nothing whatsoever. Just using the tools the designers gave me :)

Did any of the patches increase effigy rates? The vanilla game is incredibly scabby with them, a handful of stashes aside. It wouldn't be so bad if so many of the game's systems weren't reliant on being human.

Despite the amazing quality, those little PVM's (9" are they?) just seem far too small to be of any use for gaming. The larger 20" or so, now that's more like it...but dat price!

Ah yeah, 9 inches is just a novelty really (oooh errrr!).

The 20 inch ones are a great size... definitely a pain in the hoop to hunt down though! I didn't realize how heavy they were until lifting my one up the stairs. Can see now why postage is so crazy.

There has to be a cache of them in Ireland somewhere...

I plan on riddling it with Streets of Rage and Golden Axe too. :pac:

PS1 emulation is utter cack. Been setting up the PS1 part of Hyperspin on the bartop the last while, it's a mess of plugins, custom shaders, & just bad emulation :(

A PS, an SD loader, a hacked couple of pads and a decent CRT, put it all into a cab and your laughing.
Perhaps when the PSIO project reaches fruition it'll be a runner.

Yeah I won't lose any sleep over the emulation, I've a couple of PS1's anyway & a modded one so I won't be stuck. It just struck me because I hadn't touched PS1 emulation for years so I 'd hoped it had improved somewhat. It works like, but it's so far removed from what playing a ps1 is like.

I played Metro 20somethingorother last night. Looks alright but I still don't like FPS games. :(

If I ever leave the office tonight I think a quick blast of Saidaioujou will help steady the nerves and prove a refreshing tonic. :)

Really enjoyed Jungle Beat, my hands were worn out playing that when it was released... Remembering it makes me want to dig out the bongos for a game myself.

Been playing Rockman 2 today and getting nowhere... I've always been rubbish at Mega Man games... is it cheating to look up the boss order or should I be figuring it out somehow?

Best to figure it out. It's much more interesting that way.

Just keep the hell away from Heat Man for a while! :D

I usually go Woodman, Bubble Man, Metal Man when I'm starting off. Fairly easy to get out of the way.

I usually go metal man first. His weapon is the best in the game.

Finally bothered to soft mod my Wii today. Reason being to make the poor sod region free. Took a while to do but sorted now.

Played a few of my NTSC-J discs today, seeing as it's been a miserable day outside. Also I played Mario Galaxy 2 today for the first time (never played the first one). What a game. Very intuitive controls and VERY immersive. I like!

The Galaxy games are pretty amazing.
The second one is only slightly touch like a mission pack for the original although the volume of cool ideas throughout makes it amazing.
    So good.
I'd love to have seen them get a 3D sequel in the 3DS, not instead of 3D Land you understand, I'm sure the world is big enough for both, together with the NSMB series and Paper Mario series.

I just played the first hour of Tearaway. I'm going to come right out and say it: it's great. Like, Nintendo great. I am actually in slight awe of the level of imagination and ingenuity on display.

It gets better as you go on too. Superb game.
