I'm going to be working in DCU for the summer and just wondering what the story is with parking for non-students ?

Is clamping in operation outside of term time ?

Car park at the back of the library has no barrier. You can park there for free. Alternatively, you can buy a 6 use helix ticket for 7e. Clamping is of course in operation if you do not park in designated zones.

Would I need a permit or anything to that effect to park in the one at the back of the library ?

No, its for student use but they have no way of checking. Just go in the ballymun road entrance, follow the road around. They only clamp if you are not parked in a space or in the disabled. Even then, you get 1 warning.

You need a student/staff card to access that carpark

The new one at the back? When did the put that up? I only ever park there on Wednesday nights, barriers are always up but it is after 8 so would expect them to be.

If that is the case, the helix will sell you a 7e tix for 6 use parking. Alternatively, the housing estate opposite the nursing building is free to park.

Just park in one of the housing estates. Just make sure you aren't blocking any of the people's entrances.

Safest thing is to get a carpark pass from security downstairs in the multistory will cost you 6/7eu for a weeks parking!

Please don't do this. The roads are quite narrow and the place is always getting blocked up with students, with bin lorries, oil deliveries, ambulances etc unable to get down the roads.

You will also get clamped, this is something which has started recently.

Not if you park legally. We all pay motor tax and have a right to park there. If you are sick of student parking there, campaign to your local councillors to get permit parking.

Tell that to the lads I've seen clamped parking there.

You also get students moving cones to park wherever they please. An elderly man recently had to be carried all the way from house down the street to an ambulance because it couldnt get up the road with students cars

Damm it ! Was hoping it was more set up like what we have in Maynooth outside of term time. Though suppose since you guys are much closer to the city centre it makes sense its not ! :pac:

If I could borrow a friend's student card would that do the job ?

Can't imagine there being too many students around in July/August ;)

Though the above poster is right once no ones driveway is blocked and the car is taxed they've as much right as anyone else to park their cars on a public road. Get permit parking if its that much of an issue or maybe a radical idea but widen the road !

Thanks for all the help guys I've emailed the estates office to see about the 6 use tickets and how to get them since I'll only be "occasional staff" as they say :)

They would only be clamped if parked illegally.

Yes, a friends student card will work. Old student cards work a lot of the time as well, they dont have to be a current student (the card eventually stops working).

The 6 use ticket is for staff and students. You just go to the pay station at the car park and ask for one. You must get it before you enter the car park. If you have any issues send me a PM and ill pop over and grab it for you. I'll be in all summer.

Cars are only clamped there if they are parked way off the kerb (which I've seen), or if they're parked on a bend.
