Hanafin Running, Against FF wishes

Minister Mary Hanafin has defied the wishes of the Fianna Fáil leadership, and allowed her name to go forward for this month’s local elections.
The ex-TD hit the headlines over the weekend after news of her candidacy emerged.
The party initially approached her last Wednesday to run in the Blackrock ward of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, on the basis that polling had shown she could help the Fianna Fáil result.
She agreed on the basis that the existing candidate, Ógra FF president Kate Feeney, was informed. However — the party later changed its mind and asked her to not to allow her name go forward.
On Saturday, Hanafin lodged the official papers necessary — signed by Fianna Fáil general secretary Seán Dorgan.
Noon today was the final deadline for those papers to be withdrawn. However, speaking on RTÉ’s Today with Seán O’Rourke just before that deadline, Hanafin confirmed she will in fact be running.

Does she have a brass neck musselling in? Or is she what FF needs in their renewal?

If Micheal Martin asked her 3 times to withdraw, and she wouldn't, why doesn't he just expel her?

I'm loving this, another big two fingers to the Irish electorate from Fianna Fáil, they are literally laughing at us now. I want to see John O'Donoghue and even Bertie make a come back too, it's the only way this party will be buried once and for all

Expel her for what? She was nominated seemingly. Though given the source who knows what actually happened.

Typical of M. Martin's total lack of leadership ability.
FF are the most dis-unified, ineptly led, and ineffective opposition party the Dail has ever known.

If she wants to go for a jog whats the problem?

Didn't she have a particularly good relationship with bertie? Who has been critising Martin lately.

Perhaps there's nothing in that, perhaps that phrase 'the most cunning, devious of them all' still holds true.

I wouldn't vote for a man who thinks he is a bat no matter what party he stood for. He probably would join SF given he is a lawless vigilante.
How many penalty points would he get here?

I think she'll be elected and this move by FF is a stunt. They want her to run but don't want to be seen to be supporting her.

I get the feeling she's been trundling about the house for a couple of years now, her solitude only occasionally interrupted by pep talks from her inner voice "Mary Hanafin can help these people, Mary's work is not yet done".

This is embarassing for FF. I hope it splits the vote and neither of them get elected.

Her application had already been signed by the elections honcho in FF so probably nothing they can do about it now.

But hopefully the electorate in the Blackrock Ward will remember her arrogance and what she was part of, and vote accordingly.

The problem is not Mary Hanafin, it is Micheal Martin and FF who asked her to run, then changed their mind when it was too late.

The problem is always mary hanafin

They are sticking two fingers up to the electorate by a candidate they don't want to run refusing to remove herself?

All that can happen there is the FF vote Is diluted , to their detriment.

Its no too late for her to pull out.

Why does the story call her minister Hanafin anyway?

If people are so stupid as to vote for Hanafin (or FF in general really) then the likes of Mary Coughlan and Cowen will be back in the next election for another greedy shake of the tree of plenty.
