i love the reactions from rival fans, especially Utd fans. i encourage everyone to enjoy it. embrace it.

    also, remember it.

for the last 20 odd years, bar the odd cup competition, and the glorious 2/3 year stretch under Rafa, we have been labelled as "irrelevant". in fact, even during those Rafa years, when we were actually the number 1 team in Europe on performance, it was still seen as flash in the pan stuff.

in fact, I've had many people go out of their way over the years to point out how "irrelevant" we are.

in 2009, "we were never actually in the title hunt".
"the Champions League win was lucky."
    "you're a mid-table club"

    etc etc.

the reactions to our push for the title this year prove beyond a shadow of a doubt how relevant we have always been. this is many a rival fan's worst nightmare, and i've found in particular, that it's Utd fans. and let me be clear, I'm not specifically talking about those on Boards. i'm talking everywhere else. every single last one of them have wanted the winners of the league, in order of preference, to be:

    1. Chelsea
    2. City.
    3. Liverpool (and that's a very distant 3rd).

enjoy and embrace that fact. the first time in many a year when we've been in the title hunt into the very last day of the season, and we are absolutely despised. Utd fans would prefer their city rivals to win the League over us. and easily. that would not make any sense unless you realise that Liverpool has always, and always will be, a huge club, and will always be "relevant".

it'll be the same when Utd come storming back.

there is no club I would rather see not win the League than Utd. why? because they will always be relevant, and I will always enjoy seeing them lose. that's the way rivalry works, and it's the way sport works. this garbage that people are "small time" or "sad" or whatever if they enjoy Utd losing, or if their fans are called the same if they celebrate one of our losses, is ridiculous. it's part of the game. it's part of the rivalry. and there is no other set of fans that I will enjoy being miserable than theirs. and i know from my friends these past few weeks, and from looking in the Utd thread, that they feel the same way about us. and that feels glorious.

can you imagine if our run this season had actually been done by Spurs? or Everton? or even Arsenal? we'd have seen a fraction of the passion, and a fraction of the vitriol. that's a good sign of how "relevant" we are IMO, but make your own conclusions.

there is still a chance of glory, don't forget. it's a tiny chance, but a chance all the same. we have the easiest fixture we could ask for on the last day. while nothing is a gimme, Newcastle at home is as close to one as you can get. Villa and West Ham are unlikely to do us the favour needed, but all we can do is win our game. i'd have bitten your arm off for 84 points and over 100 goals at the start of the season. that doesn't make the last 2 games hurt much less, but it might be important to keep that perspective as we head into the summer.

i'm proud of the club this season. the swagger is back, and we've properly píssed off some rival fans. we're back.

    love it.

How much does a whole defence cost to put together.

Dont anyone tell me Sakho, Flanagan etc are good enough either

Agreed, if Rodgers goes and gets 2 wingers and Osasuna's second choice striker I'll flip the lid.

The defence needs gutting, as much as Rodgers loves the ball being played from the back I'd love an old school CB in the Hyppia mould, regardless of age to just steady the ship and lead from the back. I just don't have faith in any sort of a Sakho-Skrtl-Agger partnership anymore.

What specifically did Sakho and Flanagan do wrong?

Individually, I though Sakho had a good game, won every header, didn't really give the ball away. Flanagan the same.
I thought Johnson had his best game of the season up until the last 20 minutes when either his head or his body failed him. Skrtel was at fault for the third goal.

The blame really lies with the collective. Yes, there were individual errors, but there was a lack of calmness and composure. Before we knew it they had scored 3 goals.

anyone a tiny bit concerned at Suarez reaction last night?

kinda reminded me of the way he reacted when we got knocked out of the Europa last season, and as if he knew he possibly wont have another chance with the club.

    His reaction yesterday could be perceived in multiple ways;
You know there's going to be a big offer for the man, realistically I still can't see him at Liverpool next season. Madrid will dump everything they have at him until he's got.

    not just Madrid.

he is a phenomenal player with many clubs wanting his services. Im just hoping his new contract and the guaranteed CL football is enough for him.

If not then its going to take Bale type money to land him, and I cant see us doing a Spurs with those funds - so every cloud has a silver lining.

And then we lose to Newcastle!

    No Chance.

    I'll be in the stands.

Liverpool have never lost at Anfield when I've been there. The streak will remain intact!

Well at least if you are ordering your new L'pool jersey now you don't have to worry about getting normal Prem badges on it or 'Champions' badges

If I had been on the beer for a week and came off it yesterday I'd still have got a better night's sleep last night than I did ffs.

    http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/162441-rodgers-reflects-on-disappointing-night

"It was hugely disappointing," Rodgers told reporters following the final whistle. "For 78 minutes, we were outstanding and did everything that we would want to do.

"We looked solid defensively, didn't have many scares, controlled the ball, ended up getting three goals and looked like we could get one or two more.

"But I think we got carried away; thought we could maybe get one or two more and lost the defensive structure to our game. To concede the three goals at the end was hugely disappointing, having worked so hard to get 3-0 up.

"Tonight was about winning the game, so when we stabilised that at half-time and got the structure back into our game, we came out in the second half and got two quick goals - which put us in total control with half an hour to go.

"We created other chances and looked like we could score, but we just didn't manage the game then. At 3-0, we gave them a little sniff when they were not in the game at all. Obviously, they have got some good players that can punish you.

"It's something that we'll improve on for next season; last season we needed to get better and we've got better this year. It's very disappointing to have only gained a point from a game we had total control over."

If you won the league I'd still have a feeling that he would be bought out. Bale money is what Madrid have in abundance I'm afraid. Might depend on how Madrid season finishes though.

Why do people keep thinking that Suarez is going to leave.

He was upset last night because he'd just seem the title slip, doesn't mean he's leaving.

He has signed a new contract. The issues he had last summer appear to be gone.

He has said he is staying. What more do people want?

I still feel the same this morning as I did last night. Annoyed we blew a three game lead (the same as I'd be even if it was a meaningless match akin to the ones Man U are playing out right now), but I'm not gutted about it. Not the way I was after the Chelsea loss.

Even at three up last night, I wasn't euphoric thinking we were going to win it, it wasn't back in our hands. I just wanted to try and get a couple more and make an attempt at cutting into the GD. If GD wasn't an issue, I think we would have held on to win. But as we know, the defense is terrible. I've said before, I wouldn't mind if we sold any of our defenders. We really need a higher quality of centre back.

I thought the match thread was funny in fairness. The reaction of Man U fans is quite humourous and heartening to see.

Last night and most likely 'only' finishing second to Man City doesn't take away from my enjoyment of this season. The results we've achieved, the way we've played the game in taking the title race down to the very last season has been joyful.

Suarez wanted Champions League, he got it. Everyone was upset last night come the final whistle, it shows he cares greatly for the club so I wouldnt think he is going anywhere.

I'm saying that Liverpool are not going to turn down 70 - 100 million regardless of contract.
Not saying it's related directly to his reaction that's up to interpretation.

I don't think we are as out of the league as people seem to think.

It's gone from needing either West Ham or Villa to draw, to needing one of them to win.

It does make it less likely, but there is still a real chance.

It's been such a great season whatever happens though!
