You sure? As far as I know my modem is 6+ years old.

Well I'm having the same problem as you, as are others with relatively new modems so I really don't think thats the problem....maybe I'm wrong though. And if you've been with Eircom that long then just ask them to send you a new one anyway, you'd definitely be entitled to a free upgrade rather than having to go buy one!

Bet ya it goes back to normal at midnight.

and then goes back to being terrible at around noon tomorrow!

Got the red light on my router for a couple of minutes there and when I ran the full diagnostic test it was an authentication fail. I'm hoping that means they're trying something in Eircom HQ to fix the problem.

Watching a video at 144p and its buffering like crazy. I have had this problem since I got back from England Friday.

I just hope they will find out whats wrong tomorrow after the bank holiday.

This is what the eircom mod is saying on their forum...

    Hi Guys
we have had no information on any specific issue over this weekend affecting sspeeds. I have taken all available details from your posts and sent this to our network team. Our apologies that we have no further information to offer on the issue reported here but I can confirm that this issue is currently under investigation.
A full investigation from local to international connection does take time but is the only way to get to bottom of any issue.
Some members have been chasing info on this for a few months and sorry that I cannot provide a quicker response.
    Tony

The "some members have been chasing info on this for months...." bit worries me

Bet ya it goes back to normal at midnight.

    Spot on prediction.

I'm streaming a basketball game in HD now and it's like watching the TV. No buffering or any other issues at all. I tried to watch the Liverpool game earlier and it was absolutely impossible.

Same story for me today again unfortunately. Fine at around midnight last night, fine this morning before I left, home again now for the last hour and it has been acting up again.

It's getting better though, I can stream or watch videos for about 10 seconds before they freeze today whereas it's only been about 2 seconds for the last few days

Without a shadow of doubt it will be back to normal at midnight. Very frustrating.

    585kpbs here. :(

In all honesty, I don't think Eircom have any intention of sorting it or just don't know how. Reading their forums suggests that some people have had this issue for 5 months with no resolution, they'll hide behind "an investigation takes time" or "you're not in a Next Generation Broadband area" excuses. A post from one of their moderators is below:

If you look at 'nuxxx's' posts on the Talk to Eircom forum from the link below he seems to have pinpointed the issue which may be the same for us, a congestion issue perhaps. I'll fire him a PM and see if he has any more news since he last posted on there:

I live in Clonmel. I've been having the exact same issue. Usually we get download speeds of around 8 Mbps, but it seems like it's been capped at 0.6 Mbps for the past week or so. Very annoying...

When it first started happening to me back in February I think there was a massive thread in the Ask Eircom forum. The reason they gave was, get ready for this, that the bad weather had caused a cable under the sea to rupture!!! They were sending out divers etc to fix it! lol I'm serious!! They must be still looking for that cable...it's probably next to flight mh370.

That did happen. A Cable and Wireless submarine fibre link from wexford failed on the 31st december and was fixed a few weeks later. This is unrelated to that.

I'm starting to think this might be the case.

We're all spread over the country and are having the same issue. Is it possible that Eircom are capping it at around 0.6 MB as this seems to be the speed that I'm also getting at peak times when I run tests.

If so, why would they do this?

my friend thinks this too and reckons its because they want everyone to upgrade to efibre and sign into new contracts... I'm not convinced though, I'm still going with the theory that they just havent a clue what is wrong

Slowdown for me again this evening ,was fine all day.
Is there any way i can see if im routed via Limerick ?
I remember when we had issues in the past i done something and could see,i dont recall how.

I'm in limerick area on E fibre and have a 50mb package.

Since Friday lunchtime my speed is between 0.66 and 4mb.

    Getting no answers from Eircom.

One thing I did notice though is when I do a line checker on my number from Eircom website it always use to tell me my line was capable of 50mb speeds.

Got up this morning did a speedtest and was getting 86 mb download.

Went back to Eircom website did a check again on what my line is capable of and it's gone up to 90mb.

I was getting speeds of 86mb for 3hours this morning no problem. Then around 4pm went back to **** speeds of 1 - 3 mb.

Also my Eircom cabinet is not far from my house and Eircom vans have been there all day.

So I don't know if there updating exchanges or what but something is up.

A tracert will show IPs in between and you could probably pick your BRAS out. But they may all geolocate to eircom HQ which will mean nothing of value. If you call them they could tell you though. There are like 8-10 nationally.

Sounds like they may be playing with vectoring on your cab. Or theyre having problems with that specific cab. Probably not related.
