Car insurance PITO (pain in the hole)

I'm trying to insure a car and 99% of insurance companies only insure if I haven't had a claim in the last 5 years. Well, I have. May 20th 2009 (almost exactly 5 years ago).

I fit all the other assumptions so can I just go ahead and ignore this as it's so close?

    I'd be waiting tbh.

May 2009 to May 2014 is 5 years right? So my logic would be... it's been 5 years since the accident. Therefore I'm grand....

In the event of an accident in ... October 2015 for example, would this fact void a claim?

Failure to disclose this information at your pearl.

You are obliged to be truthful and give full disclosure when taking out a policy as the level of risk is based on the information you provide them. However if or when it comes to light that you mislead them, they will first null/void your policy and then in the event of a claim made against you they will look to recover their loss from you possibly through the courts.

Just wait another 3 weeks or so. BTW May 20th 2009 to May 5th 2014 is not 5 years in an insurance company's mind, that is what matters.

Yes.The price of the quote is given on the information provided now, not at a future date when an accident occurred.

Get the bus for a few weeks, b&b it, get a lift...whatever works for you. Then get your insurance. 5 years haven't passed, wait until they do and then happy days. If you've waited this long then a few weeks won't hurt?

    Ok ok I'll wait ..

Just another question though. When I had the accident in 2009 I had been driving for almost 2 years. So does that mean I still have 1 year No Claims Bonus? As I had driven for a full year without claiming. Thanks.

No. It resets once you claim.

NCB expires after two years anyway. You need to wait, otherwise you'll be screwed if you need to claim.

EDIT: Colm, that depends on the policy.

Unless you had no claims bonus protection then once you claimed your on 0. That's irrelevant anyway because it would have lapsed a couple of years ago anyway. You have no no claims bonus.

You are ringing the wrong companies! Try a broker. Have you had a policy in the past 5 years since the claim? that may be the issue.

No I haven't had a policy since 2009 as I left the country to go traveling soon after the accident. (this was planned before the accident I swear!) So a broker would sort me out?

I'd wait if I were you. 15 days, not worth the aggro

Also, Hole is spelled with a H not an O :pac:
