    Never understood the hate.

At the top of their game they were fantastic and racked out classic after classic. And to give credit where it's due Bonio is nothing if not an adroit and skilled lyricist. Until he went down the moles digging in the holes road.

Favourite song would have to be a toss-up between With or Without You and Where the Streets Have No Name, with an honourable mention to One.

60 posts before I found what I was looking for.

The Joshua Tree was one of the best albums of the 80s imo.

As mentioned by others, Ground beneath her feet, Sunday Bloody Sunday, and With or Without You

This track is going to rile a lot of people. It is an old mashup, of With or Without You played over the thumping beat of Da Funk by Daft Punk.

To many it will be electronic nonsense which destroys the feeling of the original track but I think it is one the few mash ups which works well.

Yes, I know this is not an official U2 track in this form.

    Great song!

I always really liked one of the songs of their Pop album called Gone. Not sure why I like it so much because its far from a classic as such but lyrically I think it's great and I always got the emotion in Bono's voice whenever he sung it live.

Pop is a much maligned album, probably because they were not happy with it themselves. They wanted more time to finish it. But there are some gems on there. I was lucky enough to see the pop tour in feyenord stadium in Rotterdam back in the day. I'm a huge fan of "please" off that album as well

I like the song where they're phoning up people in sarajevo during their gigs

I mean thats what kept them going when they were being lashed out of it, knowing bono was gonna give them a bell during their set

Anyway, "All I want is you" is the only U2 song I wont immediately turn off if its on the radio or whatever

The Fly, Love is Blindness, With or Without You, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Stuck In A Moment, Moment of Surrender all great. But my favourite is probably With or Without You.

It works! Nice take on a classic, refreshing.

As for my favourite U2 song, The Sweetest Thing, Sunday Bloody Sunday and Beautiful Day are all contenders.

I love the minimalism of With or Without You. The edge is, by his then standards, holding back, the fade is excellent.

To me that makes it better than All I want is you which goes power ballady at the end.

There is a more minimalist version of that cover with just Bono and Paul Barrett.

The live versions from the Slane Castle gig in 2001

All I Want Is You / Where The Streets Have No Name - the change from songs with the crowd sprawled out at Slane is the best I have seen
    [/QUOTE]

I was at that gig - thats the very point I actually nearly lost my mind! the intro, the crowd, the energy was something i'd never experienced - I wasnt even a massive U2 fan - Been to all their Irish gigs since then.

4:35 in - FUCK ME What a gig

I really don't like Where The Streets... and Still Haven't Found... Not because they're popular (I adore With Or Without You) but in my opinion there are much stronger tracks on that album (The Joshua Tree). However they're very "anthemic" which made them natural singles in a way.

Mysterious ways. It's not their best one but I've always liked it.
