    This is a decent documentary.

I've noticed some of the programmes on Sk* Art* tend to be gushing in their praise of the subject, but the BBC ones are usually more balanced.

    This is a lovely doc.

I'm biased though. Nancy looks a right plastic barbie. Sad to say.

Remember she had a hit with "These boots were made for walking".....

My Way, when it is sang well, is a terrific song.

It was originally a french song, and it was almost became a David Bowie release.

    Have a look here ...

It is the most misogynistic song ever written by man......:D

But Frank sings it so well.....I'd forgive that man anything.....:D

You've got to have a dream,
    if you don't have a dream -
how you gonna have a dream come through?

    Captain Sensible's finest hour there.

Apart from the Big Break theme.

I know it's not the one most people like, but I'll always remember this song of hers. Here in a rare duet with the write, Billy Bragg

There's a film out there somewhere called Birth of the Beatles. Taped it when I was a kid. Must've watched it a hundred times.

I believe the George Harrison ended up in Eastenders.

    Must hunt it down.

Birth of The Beatles is on tonight at 9pm on True Movies (available on Sky,UPC and Freesat)
Pop biopic charting the Beatles' early days in Germany with original members Pete Best and Stu Sutcliffe, and their first stab at chart success with Ringo Starr and producer George Martin. Starring Stephen Mackenna, John Altman, Rod Culbertson, Ray Ashcroft and Nigel Havers

For those with *cough* Sky Arts, David Bowie documentary incoming at 11.45pm

I don't know how Nasty Nick from Eastenders got into this Beatles film ... was there no-one from Brookside available? They would have made a better stab at the accent.

Luckily, he's only George, and therefore has very little to say.

"Well, for one thing, I don't like your tie!"

    Best film ever.

Who's yer man (commentator) with the curly-head mop?

I'm sorry I didn't see this flagged earlier - I only switched over at the 80's bit, I'd be a much bigger fan of his earlier music

    Don't suppose there's a Sky Arts +1???

I tried it just now (in chrome) and it was working for me.

Sometimes it goes down for brief periods, maybe try using a different browser, clearing your cookies etc.

Hmm...tried it again and it's not happening for me. Bloody technology.

Thanks anyway. Apologies if my post was a bit blunt, felt a bit of urgency there when I was missing TOTP!

I see the 'Life of Rock' mockumentary which was on BBC 4 a while back is getting new episodes, but it will move to BBC 2

    http://www.comedy.co.uk/news/story/000001467/simon_day_brian_pern_series_2_on_bbc2/
Another three episodes are now being planned, to be broadcast at the end of the year. They could be coupled with a repeat of the first series to make a six-part run. Rhys Thomas also confirmed on Twitter that the show will now move from BBC Four to the more high-profile BBC Two.

The Radio Times reports that the working title for the new episodes is Rock Apocalypse, with the first episode focusing 'on the history of the Christmas song, as Brian plans to release his own Yuletide composition'. Another episode will see Brian planning his own music festival, with his spoof documentary concurrently looking at the history of festivals. Meanwhile the third episode will focus on the history of the jukebox musical.

In 2013, having already wowed the crowd at Glastonbury, the veteran band returned to Hyde Park on two consecutive Saturday nights as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations. Plus, footage of the band performing 19th Nervous Breakdown on Top of the Pops in 1966, which was used in a 1960s BBC documentary about women with depression

    10.55pm & 2.55am When Rock Goes Acoustic
Musicians discuss the importance of the acoustic guitar in rock music, revealing how performers can often get more attention by playing quietly, and recalling some of the instrument's most notable contributions to the genre. Among those appearing are Johnny Marr, Keith Richards, Joan Armatrading, Roger McGuinn, James Dean Bradfield, Biffy Clyro, Ray Davies and Donovan

    11.55pm Acoustic at the BBC

Also appearing is Kentucky country musician Sturgill Simpson, and German jazz musician Roger Cicero joins Jools at the piano for a song

Saturday Night on BBC1 after the Eurovision

Riverdance programme on RTE1 after the Eurovision that wouldn't be my cup of tea but here you go anyway

RTE1 11.35pm Riverdance: Live from the Point Theatre 1995
A look back at the first choreographed tour show by the original cast at the Point Theatre in Dublin, following on from the act's interval appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. The performance was composed by Bill Whelan, and featured an 80-strong cast, including Michael Flatley and Jean Butler as lead dancers. The programme brings back memories of the haunting sound of the Irish choral group Anuna, and the dynamism of the Irish Dance Company

Ah, that was a great show Skid, much better than the later versions that became more "showbiz"...

I enjoyed it, the musicians were terrific, I love a bit of Davy Spillane!...:)

    Great OP by the way!...:)
