Can someone suggest an exact measured 1Km (or whaveters best) around here for me to calibrate my garmin watch ? Huge difference between it and my regular run app (endomondo).

    Thanks in advance

Hi Raler, what kind of Garmin is it? Do you have a FR50 / FR80 with just a footpod, or something like that? If so, a track would be your best bet. I know the Bros Pearse guys have a 300m grass pitch, which should be accessible, which could be your best bet?

If it's not a footpod-based watch, then you should be able to calibrate it from the GPS, right?

The problem with footpods is that they are never totally accurate for distance/pace.
A footpod works by assuming that each stride is an exact length and by multiplying that number of strides by the distance covered per stride. It only measure your total number of strides.

When you run fast your stride length is generally much longer than when you run slow (anyone with a garmin 200 or 620 can see this) so the distance with a footpod can be out by anything up to 15-20% Iin my experience. calibrating the footpod will only work if you run the exact same pace and take the eaxct same number of stride/minute in all runs as in your calibrated test.
Your phone app will be much more accurate for judging distance/pace etc as it works off GPS.

the track is here, 300m with 100m marked intervals
The velodrome on Sundrive Road is nearer, but I'm not sure if the public can access that. I think Sportsworld have some marked intervals in Bushy park too. But I share meno's doubts about the worth of a footpod
