There is certainly no expense spared on the Meereen scenes, well on Danerys scenes in general, the city looked fantastic.

Yeah the city looks great. Don't be surprised to see Stannis' mounted troops rushing in to save the day at the wall banging coconuts together as a result though :pac:

Well Stannis seems to get zero budget compared to her. Our poor old one true King.

Stannis deserves better, hopefully this season they do him justice!

I see people are complaining about moving through the Meereenese knot story line too quickly. Is that really a bad thing? It was dreadfully boring in the books. Bring on the pirates I say. They have the potential to be great TV characters, I really enjoyed them in the books.

I thought the Jon Snow scene "Who will come with me?" was appalling. What a joke of a scene. Reminded me of the "I broke the dam" scene from Southpark.

Interesting. I liked it. My hubby (non book reader) immediately said "The men respect him but not Thorne".

Yeah the Meereen graffitti was a bit off but was it not supposed to be that the infiltrators (who Missandei had just been shown teaching) did it (as opposed to the slaves in Meereen).

Yes, but it would have looked a lot better to see the Targaryen flag fluttering in the breeze with 3 dragons flying above it.

I thought there was something very Nazi-ish about the Targaryen flag. Big and black with the red dragon emblem - just struck me as quite reminiscent of Nazi pagentry.

Hope Stannis' epic armour makes an appearance again this season.

I did think it was uncharacteristically cheesy.

Did anyone else find the English graffiti in Meereen a bit out of place too?

She was only teaching Grey Worm, I don't see why they would put it in a language the majority on that side of the world don't seem to speak either. It wasn't a big deal or anything, just jarred little for me.

Yes, but I inferred that Grey Worm would then teach the others - perhaps I read too much into it, but I couldnt really see the point of that scene if it were not to explain the graffitti.

He's one of her generals, makes sense that he would learn the common tongue if they're eventually going to invade Westeros. To be honest, I think that scene served no other purpose than to build Missendei and Grey Worm's relationship a bit, could be a case of him just wanting to learn for the sake of it too.

Has there ever been confirmation that they'll be in the show. I remember hearing rumours Victarion and Euron being merged and having a less significant role? They had been introduced by this stage in the books, hadn't they? It's hard enough to remember the books without all the deviations in the show confusing things even further :P

Well the Jon Snow scene while cheesy certainly was a lot more efficient (in TV show terms) than the convoluted election rigging of Sam in the books.

The English graffiti I thought was awful. It would haev been better to have shown Meerenese writing (that we couldn't recognise) with subtitles or perhaps some sort of graphic. It didn't need to be in English for us to appreciate the threat implied....especially coming after the weapon giving scene.

That part hasn't happened yet, all he was doing here was asking for people to go to craster's with him sure.

Not to mention most of the slaves are uneducated and cannot read or write. Your idea of a graphic would be better.

It is setting the stage for the election of Lord Cmdr down the line. Janos Slynt mentioned it when Thorne stared Jon down in the yard.

Thus the viewers now know that Jon is well respected

But it was for the benefit of the Masters and presumably organised by Dany so it's irrelevant whether the slaves could read or write.

I specifically said I hope he picks up the pace. I did not say I expected it. You're making up my argument for me and then arguing against it. You're claiming I am an entitled little brat based on something you yourself wrote, namely that I "expect" him to speed up. If you want to discuss this be civil about it and stop making stuff up.

As for the TV show, you're acting as if it came out of nowhere and is trying to chase him down. He agreed to it, he signed the contract, as a result, it obviously has had and will continue to have some kind of impact on how he writes the books. Once again, I re-iterate my point; I don't expect him to do anything, I hope he picks up the pace, I hope the series isn't finished on screen, and finally if the latter does happen (and I realize you all disagree with this but each to their own) I hope he says sorry. There you go.
I agree to some extent but as the shows goes on more and more will have to be revealed. If it is indeed the case that the show overtakes the books I would at least expect a public apology, I like the show a lot but given the choice between it and the book I'll take the latter every time (as would most book readers).

That's his fault for handing over so much control but I suppose business is business and money talks. That's why all I would expect from him is a humble apology, no more. Just a little something to ease the blow, words are wind and all that.

I'm not making stuff up. You put the words in your own mouth but yeah I'll leave it.

It should be ages away but I can't wait until Slynt loses his head. Great moment in the book and you finally feel some justice for Ned.

Yup though if my TV watcher friends are anything to go by they haven't got a clue who Slynt is now.

Possibly, but then we get back to the problem of it being in the Common Tongue rather than Valyrian.

that's embarrassing now but I read the book ages ago and forgot how Slynt is involved? Im just not good with names ha

Can you tell me how it ends cos I've watched the whole series twice now and still haven't a clue...

Well then it was in English for the benefit of us, the viewers ;)

So no Brown Ben, no Penny and no Strong Belwas so far. :(

What does it answer? Whether the WWs have a heirarchy?

Well at the very least, it confirms another "King" has entered the fray.
It is certainly a Winds of Winter spoiler anyway.... And if they've revealed a Nights King already with the book not even on the near horizon, I'm wondering just how far they intend to take that story arc this season and possibly next?

Not much I'd say, they've averaged roughly 1 major WW scene per season so far.

I wonder if Penny will just be on the same boat as Tyrion?

Well if Penny didn't appear at Joffrey's wedding then we know she won't appear until next series. I think it makes sense that they wouldn't feature her in that episode because there was so much going on anyway, trying to introduce another character might have been a bit much, especially one who won't appear again for the whole series.

Presumably Strong Belwas and Brown Ben have been cut. I don't think that's any great loss personally, there's already too many characters to keep track of.
