I really don't understand why TV3 didn't reach an agreement with AMC in the states - they are churning out some excellent stuff lately but apart from that sky and the other Irish/British channels have the best of the stuff sown up... there is of course an awful amount of stuff made in the states but realistically the vast majority is utter s.hite and what we get here for the most part is the hand picked best of it.

Yes, there is a huge amount of poor programming made in America (probably what TV3 would go for) However, there's also a lot of decent stuff that's under the radar. Having said that, there is loads on made by Canadian Broadcasters, as well as Australia and New Zealand. Too often down thru the years some of the best picks from America have tended to turn up on TG4.

TV3 content from Various Territories seems to be the bargain bin selection. Even the way they used what they had from ITV is nuts.

It's nothing to do with money, it's to do with vision. There's a huge amount of English language content out there that hasn't been on Irish TV. It's not that hard to do. I'm not suggesting that they even have to go down the Danish route (something ITV3 has done in the UK)

Also post the BAI EPG guidelines as outlined in the Broadcasting Act 2009, I'd be interested in reading them.

    Are there BAI epg guidelines?
The BCI published epg guidelines back in late 2007 prior to the commercial DTT process, must dig them out.

The problem you have with Sky's self-regulation is that the BAI AFAIK did not get around to issuing guidelines but I could be wrong. If they did then Sky need to go by those guidelines, the act isn't as clear the UK's 2003 Act.

Maybe the BAI will publish guidelines now with UTV looking for an epg LCN.

I don't think Sky would be required to observe the BAI's guidelines as an Ofcom regulated services.

my view is that tv3 and setanta should merge and focus more on sports bring primier league to tv3 at 3pm and have a red button service to show all the other 3 oclock kick offs and use the international feed same with champions league europa and fa cup all exclusive on setanta from 2015 as bt sports have the rights and setanta sell the bt channels here eanven formula one would be popular same with rugby and an evening sport news program covering all sports that could fill an hour and a half easily it just my view

They can't show all the rest of the 3pm kick offs, the premier league now handpick the one match all broadcasters are allowed to broadcast in Europe... I would agree with you that a Setanta/TV3 partnership would be a good move, I said it here before too but that was before the Setanta/BT partnership was in place.

It would give TV3 much needed sporting rights to fill the schedule and let Setanta bid for events which needs to have a FTA element - (World Cup, Euro Championships, Olympics, GAA Championship etc.) ... Those are RTÉ's jewel sports events and would potentially present huge revenue opportunities to both TV3 and Setanta.

If ever there was a man to put together a TV3-Setanta partnership it would be Niall Cogley, who used to head up Setanta. But in such a partnership all the benefits would be to TV3 and none to Setanta (a bit like the Setanta-BT deal in reverse) and I don't see what incentive Setanta would have to so a deal particularly when they already have a "shop window" in the form of Setanta Ireland's basic cable status.

No they don't. Broadcasters are free to choose whichever of the 3pms they like, the only restriction being that they can only show one live.

Those figures do not include the amount he pays himself and on which he pays tax. What it suggests is that some of his earnings (if billed through this company) are being used to pay down debts. The company (presumably) pays him a tax efficient amount and leaves the excess in the company. His statement of how much he earns relates to the amount the company pays him and the amount he pays tax on and is not related to how much he is paid by TV3 or any of his journo work.

Quite clearly from these figures he is well paid by TV3.

He has several other sources of Income other than TV3. TV3 probably accounts for only a third of his income (possibly less) However, it keeps him in the public eye and is very useful when he wants to sell his services elsewhere.

A lot of Boards.ie posters hate TV3 because of no UTV on the Sky Epg.

They also asked UPC to remove Utv,Itv2 3 and 4 aswell from their content which is wrong.

Their obsessed with the traveling community and many see the station as ITV Ireland.

So Id say if Tv3 went bust there wouldnt be many disappointed.

The main reason for watching the itv programs on tv3 is it is on the sky epg and most don't know about itv/utv in other channels. People will just switch to utv Ireland when tv3 loose the itv programs, so tv3 have a lot of work to do to keep the viewer. The soaps are a big loss and tv3 said they were losing money on them is crap. Corrie is one of the few things I watch on it apart from the odd film and Itv program, which I can watch on utv. I would not like to loose tv3 because it would be one less Irish channel, but the way they are now would be no loss.

I will say I'm not a fan of the show, but The Lie does look a lot better in HD. It's the first time I've been able to watch a production from TV3's HD studio. How? By turning on STV HD, who filmed Scottish Episodes of The Lie and are showing them Monday's at 8pm

HD as soon as possible would be a wise move.

We are about to find out :)

    http://www.irishtimes.com/business/sectors/media-and-marketing/tv3-to-sponsor-advertising-industry-oscars-1.1779021
Advertisers, agencies, clients and press have been invited to “a show” in the Shelbourne Hotel at which it will reveal more about its planned twice-weekly soap opera and unveil “new faces” that will feature in its line-up of shows in autumn 2014 and “into 2015”.

This is a huge time for TV3 - it's their biggest threat since they started. They need to get this absolutely right. The article above sounds positive enough.

What days the soap would broadcast would be my question.
At the moment 7-9 is pretty manic:
    Mon 7 Em 7.3 CS 8 EE 8.3 CS
    Tue 7 Em 7.3 EE 8 FC 8.3 ??
    Wed 7 Em 7.3 CS 8 FC 8.3 ??
    Thu 7 Em 7.3 EE 8 Em/FC 8.3 ??
    Fri 7 Em 7.3 CS 8 EE 8.3 CS
    Sat ??
    Sun 8.3 FC

Which days they choose would probably be determined by whether they'll still have the Champions League or not. They could also go for the 9pm slot - one which they surprisingly used for Come Dine with Me Ireland for a while.

It positive because the reporter and the times have never been anything but to TV3.

    Sundays and Wednesdays at 8:30

9 if they try to suggest its not suitable for the watershed.

I'd agree with all of this comment. I think the only nights available at this stage are Sunday and Wednesday. Having the Soap on at 8.30 would lock in the audience for a decent offering at 9 which would have to be aimed at the same group of people and something totally different to the News on RTE1.

Putting the soap on at 6.30 or earlier would be a waste even if it's a success, all the soap loving crowd would move over to emmerdale at 7.

3e's picture on saorview was terrible for the live football

I think they said that in 2006

Soap's working title is RED ROCK: Starts Jan 2015
    The Lie is to return
Googlebox is to be done for Irish TV - Aims to prove that Irish people don't watch Irish TV?
Sitting On A Fortune with Zodiak RDF
    Algorithm with Soshefeigh Media

Returning bought in shows X-Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and Downton Abbey

Returning UEFA Champions and Europa League 2015

RWC 2015 will be the largest sports event

Increase in their Independent productions from 50 to 100 hours

    Donal McIntyre returns
David McWilliams to get his own show
Jason Byrne gets a chat show

Well that's a damp squid also.
