Top 11 songs used by CIA to torture prisoners at Gitmo
    1. ”The Real Slim Shady” by Eminem
    2. “Take Your Best Shot” by Dope
    3. ”Dirrty” by Christina Aguilera
    4. ”Zikrayati (My Memories)” by Mohamed el-Qasabgi
    5. ”Babylon” by David Gray
    6. ”I Love You” by The Barney Theme
    7. ”Saturday Night Fever” by the Bee Gees
    8. “The Beautiful People” by Marilyn Manson
    9. "The Meow Mix theme"
    10. ”F--- Your God” by Deicide
    11. “We Are the Champions” by Queen

I would have expected more death metal in there but there you go.

All I keep wondering is, are they paying royalties as they are rebroadcasting after all ?
Maybe IMRO should contact them ?

I did hear before that they favoured playing the Barney theme.
Fecking hell listening to that once is bad enough but continously.

I am not allowed discuss …

Everything described in the article isn't torture. Its enhanced interrogation and humiliation. Its screwing with their minds. Nothing wrong with that.

A: Enhanced interrogation is the new word for torture as the yanks still like to believe they are the 'good guys' and don't want to be seen torturing people.

B: I'm not so sure you would agree there was nothing wrong with it if you were on the receiving end!

As legit as that website appears, OP , the idea of using music to "break someone down" is historically cliched.

I'm sure there are a thousand rationales for using any song to abuse a person; and if one plays a song loud enough it would hurt anyone.

What is disconcerting is that the media (the popular media, at least) seems to be fascinated by this type of mistreatment.
It's usually part of a regime of sleep deprivation. Randomly varying bright/dim lights, loud music, white noise etc. Sleep deprivation has very specific physiological effects.

Now I'm a die hard Sabbath fan, but some of their early stuff can even drive a rock disciple to suicide.

    Blasphemy I say!

If you don't like the early stuff then you're barely a sabbath fan to begin with. Never mind a die hard one.

Sorry but I disagree that enhanced interrogation is the same as torture and I feel the same about water boarding. It screws with your mind but doesn't kill you. I think its perfectly acceptable to use these techniques in the shadowy world of counter-terrorism.

You are right, I would hate to go through these things and I have no doubt that I would break in a very short time. Then again I am not trying to destroy an entire society and way of life because the people there don't follow the same imaginary friend as me so therefore I doubt I will ever experience them first hand.

I vaguely remember reading something on this subject - but it is so long ago now I A) can not find it and B) can not remember if it was real or a joke. Likely the latter - but I mention it here in the hope someone might know the citation to the thing I read as I would not mind reading it again.

But apperently one of the things they did against Al Queda was blare music at them and their caves to try and drive them a little potty. And one of the songs they had on loop to achieve this was a particular song by Mark E. Smith and "The Fall".

Has anyone got any idea what I am talking about - because right now it is one of those annoying little bells in the back of my head that is ringing having read the thread and I would like to know what it was.

Ha ha,I love The Fall but I can imagine not everyone would appreciate Mark E Smiths unique vocal talents.

Even the thought of the song scares me, I'm fairly sure there's some deep hidden subliminal messages involved also. But I cannot say for sure.

Did you try playing the song backwards * in reverse?

*The backwards man wouldn't appreciate being used in this type of context...

Surely Beiber or one direction are on that list somewhere?

Magnolia music. Too easy to simply zone out.

Given that this unlikely contender for the Sports Illustrated girls of the military issue is the most infamous female interrogator in the war on terror

    Ii'll pass thanks.
she wasn't an interrogatory just a reservist guarding a prison

This has to be worth a mention...me and my house mate had it on repeat for a good hour one night and even though we were dying from laughter, we both felt slightly insane

Barney the Dinosaur would make anybody lose the will to live.

Especially if it was on loop tape. Go on. You know you want to.:D:D

(15 times on loop!!!! What PERVERT thought of that? Bet the CIA would hire him. Or her)
