Was just driving home from work about ten minutes ago and I heard on the radio that Rubin Carter sadly passed away. I pulled over for a minute to think about it and its a moment that will probably stick with me forever.

Do you have a moment in life that you will remember due to a famous person passing?

I'll always remember where I was for the JFK assassination.

I was on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository.

I was riding my missus when we heard Princess Diana died.

    Something to tell the grandchildren.

The first time I ever tried ecstasy was last year, and the "comedown" coincided with me finding out that James Gandolfini had died. Pretty much the definition of the word "shitbuzz" right there. :(

Also I was at the gym when Patrick Swayze died. The TV there was set to Sky News and that was the breaking story. I remember this mainly because it was one of the only times in my life where I actually went to the gym!

The day Michael Jackson died - being quite drunk after I think being out previous that night, having a bit more boozing at home, then randomly turning on Boards.ie at about 3amish, seeing the thread on "RIP Michael Jackson" and saying "my hole, that has to be a joke" :pac::p:( then turning on Sky News and still not actually believing it, first time I felt actual sadness over a celebrity dying!

You were watching TV while riding the wife?

I remember when Steve Irwin died, was surprised to hear it but I don't get how someone would be crying over a celebrity they have never met passing on.

I can't remember where I was either my life was a bit if a blur can't even remember what age I was. Then Whitney passed and that was sad I remember I was on the Internet but can't remember where either. I tend to not care for anyone anymore too much effort .

"Remember that murder that happened in a bar ?"
"Remember you said you saw the getaway car?"
"You think you'd like to play ball with the law ?"
"Think it might-a been that fighter you saw running that night ?"
"Don't forget that you are white".

Gosh that's sad. I'm sorry to hear it. What an important man Carter was.
In the piece, Carter wrote that he was “quite literally on my deathbed”, and added: “If I find a heaven after this life, I’ll be quite surprised. In my own years on this planet, though, I lived in hell for the first 49 years, and have been in heaven for the past 28 years.”

That gave me goosebumps. He had a rough life. Glad that he seemed to find peace in his later years.

I was in westwood when MJ died. Lots of very upset people. I, of course, was oblivious to it until I got back to the hotel and was bumming around on the internet

He was actually driving a small white car recklessly in a tunnel in Paris.
The wife thing is just a cover. He doesn't even have a TV.

Michael Jackson and Princess Diana I remember well enough but a stop everything moment for me was when I heard about Veronica Guerin. I was driving that day and like you I had to pull over and take a minute.

WTC. Was at work and Nikki came in "A plane has just hit the World Trade Centre". Nikki is always up for a laugh and making silly mistakes, so no one believed her at first.

Then driving home and hearing the second plane hit. I was in traffic but I just had to pull over.

I was listening to it on the radio at work. The building had a glass facade and I remember looking out half expecting a plane to appear out of the sky coming straight for us. As the radio was reporting planes crashing into the WTC and then the pentagon it all had a bit of a surreal feel to it like it was all going to end.

I was at the pictures when I heard the news Lincoln had been shot. I remember turning to the missus and going "See, I told you we were better off not going to the theatre".
