Can't take TV shows seriously any more because characters are too good-looking!

I watched a few episodes of the new Dallas series, just to catch the late Great Larry Hagman play JR once more- I couldn't figure out who the rest of the characters were, they all had the same plastic soulless expressions, all the younger guys looked alike as did the women, and none of them could act. JR, Cliff and Sue Ellen just stole the scenes.

I think the contrast points up that so many old school actors were just "larger than life", it almost doesn't matter if their acting isn't top draw (in the technical sense) their presence is enough.

They actually all look alike in the new Dallas. It's really odd, whoever cast it obviously went for what he fancies in a man/woman. I only watched a few episodes (it's sh*te), but found it really hard to tell people apart after a bit.

I agree. One reason why I loved The Wire so much was because there wasn't any "hot" people in it. Just normal guys and gals. Although Rhonda was pretty hot.

I can't say I agree with this, there are plenty of hot people in The Wire, but it's so well written and so well made that the actors looks aren't the main appeal like they are with vapid shíte like Home & Away.

Plus The Wire is very male dominated, so if you're a dude you're less likely to really pay attention to their looks.

Personally though, I think Greggs is hot.

    And don't forget about Roo

Greys Anatomy is another one. At least in the first season all the original interns were good looking but looked frazzled, tired and normal. Switch over the the new season and the new interns are stunning models with perfect makeup and hairstyles but zero personality. It's so unrealistic for interns working 20 hour shifts to look like that!

The Secret Circle was another example of a perfectly stunning cast but no personality or plot. Just pretty people running around being pretty.

Charmed: first few seasons were great, good plots, character development. Pretty cast but they looked like regular people. Fast forward to the last few seasons and they were dressed like tramps with perfect hair and makeup no matter what, and the storylines and plots turned to crap.
Seems the be, the prettier and more styled the cast, the crappier the plots and characters.
Speaking of GoT, Brienne is way too pretty! Although she acts the part well.

I didn't know how attractive Norman Bates mother, Norma, was until I saw Bates Motel.

Im trying to watch arrow, but the looks of all the actors are really putting it off for me.
Every one of them looks like kids that have been wrapped up in cotton wool to protect their beautiful features since childbirth.
Its annoying. As i was really looking forward to that show. But the age of the main actors, their looks, their profiles, everything about that show sucks.

But then everything that comes out of the WB/CW channels are kids acting as adults and trying to save the day and looking good while doing it.
And despite having plenty of scars on the torso everyone's fortunate enough not to have had their pretty faces marred despite them getting pounded into mincemeat on a regular basis.

In The Following it's hilarious how many gorgeous women are obsessed with serial killer Joe Carroll. Even the male serial killers have perfectly groomed hair and great skin. Everyone in the FBI is incredibly inept but they look like models too.

Didn't the Nazis have a premise for show that was similar to baywatch.

I once met a girl who had been to the Baywatch beach. She was
surprised to see so many fat people there!!

Happened to see Home and Away during the week, for the first
time in years. Was surprised to see Irene still there, looking much
better than the last time I saw her!

I was going to say Roo but her character was quite attractive in the 80s apparently

Maybe you saw her in 2009 when she was in jail, she took to the drink after her release and wasn't in good shape

McNulty was pretty fit in fairness.... but yeah the show wasn't in your face about looks...

To be honest I much prefer to watch TV shows with good looking people in it, male or female. It can feel quite awkward when ugly people are on TV.

Saying that, I think there is a line of how good looking an actress can be. I cannot watch Jessica Alba films because I spend the whole film thinking about how much I want to ride her. It completely dominates any storyline.

I mean, are TV execs that short-sighted that they believe that a sexy model chick can pass off as a socially awkward nerd girl (I've seen this a few times in soaps especially)?

What I hate is when Americans make remakes of TV shows and then cast people that could be models in the roles - look at the IT Crowd, when they replaced Chris O' Dowd with Joel McHale, or what they did with the Inbetweeners. Heck, even look at their version of Being Human, where every cast member looked model-esque.

I think we need a new thread about this abomination. I just watched the pilot.

When Cedric Daniels takes his top off it was one of the most ridiculous scenes in televison. He is supposed to be a career obseessed 40 something, yet he is an absolute physical specimen, i didn't buy that character being absolutely ripped.

I get the feeling he could live off MaccyDs and still look like that. Looks to me like that's just his natural physique.

I remember the US 'reality' show Fear Factor which aired about 10 years ago was a huge culprit for this as well. It was like they went to a local modelling agency to get all of their contestants. Loads of the women had fake tits and all the guys were square jawed and handsome and everyone had perfect skin and teeth.
