Gurteen beach & Dogs Bay, Roundstone, Galway. Amazing. Pity the sea is always so cold.

A surf or a walk, followed by a pint of guinness and a bowl of seafood chowder in Smugglers Creek.

    Bliss.

And, the best way to head for the pint is by swimming to a rocky inlet located below smugglers.

I'd love if they banned the cars in the summer. Even though I drive on the beach myself it's pure mayhem on a good day.

Rossnowlagh way too busy from now on for me, cars on the beach spoil what is a nice beach. Great for surf though, We are very lucky up here, spoiled for choice with stunning beaches.

    fantastic pic karl. yours?

I wish it was but I just 'google imaged' Brandon Bay and chose the one that I like best. :)

Edit: Just did a little research and it's appears that the pic was taken by Angelo Brunero.

Best beach hasn't been mentioned yet, but not telling you lot. Want to keep it as the best beach.

    Sorry folks. ;)
same here, I know a great beach and only the locals go there, it would be ruined with crowds of people there

Or do the Stations of the Cross at the Franciscan Friary overlooking the bay and then in for food and pints in the Smuggler's.

edit the outdoor Stations of the Cross which is a beautiful stroll up the cliff.

Barleycove beach, no question. All other beaches I've been to seem boring because they don't have a proper tidal river.

Mullaghmore in Sligo is my fave, but thats probably because I grew up very near there. It's beautiful there and doesn't be too crowded. Pier Head is right beside it if you want a drink/feed after a long walk along the beach.

St John's Point and Rossnowlagh are lovely too. And Tullan Strand.

The best beach in Ireland will never ever be on the East Coast. For one simple reason. To be a truly glorious beach, you must be able to experience a sunset on it...

My favourite beaches are on Dingle peninsula but the beaches of Mayo/Donegal/Sligo are fantastic. I like to find the "hidden gem" beaches of North West Mayo using an ordinance survey map and good walking boots.

I was in Rosses Point a few weeks back. Great spot and a fine golf course.

Donegal has 13 blue flag beaches so just keep driving around there ha.

Portsalon was called the 2nd most beautiful beach in the world by the Observer and I would tend to agree.

2 fantastic beaches back to back. Picture perfect. But isn't there some geological idiosyncrasy which keeps the water temperature almost constant all year round (i.e. cold)?

Portsalon in Donegal, Donegal has some incredible beaches.

Was on Brittas Bay today with kids and the dog.. only the dog was getting in for a dip! Was fairly deserted where we came onto the beach, suited perfect as dog is overly friendly with everyone she meets.

Favourite's are all down Kerry and Dingle peninsula direction too. Off to Tralee for few days this week so hope to get out and sample a few.

I've always thought the school on the coast in Portstewart is quite epic

Sure some of you are awful wimpy! My 7 and 4 yr olds were in Friday and Saturday - and the boy and I have been every weekend since Paddy's Day. The sea seems a lot warmer than this time last year.

The amount of cars parked on both roads today coming up to the main road suggests people don't mind. Never heard of that before, not sure I'd put much store in it. Water is cold this time of year anyway.

My favourite would be Kinnagoe Bay in Donegal. No pub nearby though afaik.
Inch Beach and Banna Beach for me,

Banna would be grand on quieter days but when its busy its a disaster, impossible to find parking, and rubbish ditched everywhere by scumbags. I usually tip out as far as Ballyheigue, the water is much nicer imo.
