Dog carrier for golf hatchback.

Has anyone here got a golf with dog carrier. We bring our two dogs cocker x to beach or into woods a lot. They used to lie quietly on passengers side on floor but lately are trying to get on seats or onto my knee while driving.

Car gets filthy but my main concern is for safety. If anyone can recommend a crate or carrier they have that works well I'd appreciate it. They are used to being in a crate at home so I'm hoping they will be fine in boot

Do you have harness's for them? I just got a couple of harness's for my two dogs and they came with an attachement to clip into the seat belt, they usually sit/lie down on the back seat anyways on a cover so now I can just clip them in for their safety and I can still put the cover on the back seat. Personally not a fan of putting dogs in boots of hatchback cars I think it must be pitch black and quite stuffy for them, my dogs would simply not get into the boot, that's just me!

Thanks for reply. They wouldn't be in complete darkness as I can remove top part on boot Might look at harnesses if I don't fond suitable carrier

Take off the top part of the boot and get a decent dog guard. I always drive a hatchback and I always do this for the dogs. They get a decent amount of room and I know they are confined.

You can get custom made guards for the particular type of car you drive. When I had a Corolla I had one of these and even though it was a little expensive, it was really good quality and would have lasted forever. When I bought the Almera however there wasn't a custom one available due to the overhead seatbelt in those models so I got a generic one from Halfords which attaches to the back head-rests. Although not as sturdy as the previous one it has worked just fine but is more difficult to remove and re-fit.

+1 for the dog guard.

I used to drive a Golf and this guard from ZooPlus fits:

I still use it on my new car. It's a bit expensive but as it attaches to the rear seat headrests, there are no 'standing legs' which means more room for the dogs.

EDIT: also these covers for the front & rear seats are very robust if you decide to use a harness.

Even though we have an estate, the dog guard is the way to go!

Ours retracts into the back of the seats - but it's the same basic principle!

Have you any hooks or places you could attach a bungee? We now attach both harnesses - to bungees... And clip these to the luggage clips, as shown:
