It's always nice to see vehicles with original irish reg, that still are used as daily.

    /M

It isn't an original Irish reg as such. That car is an import and if memory serves me right it was brought in to the country around the beginning of 1986. My next door neighbour used to own it!

A lot of the 'tail end' of the old type regs from c.84 - 87 SI, ZG, *SI,*ZG were imports, especially Mercs , as the rules were being relaxed and the 'invasion' had begun

Spotted in December 2012, nice to see it still about. Its got tax and NCT until next year, so somebody is intent on keeping this little thing on the road.

I live near where this car does and, coincidentally, I spotted the owner & his car at a tyre and exhaust shop in Dublin city centre a while back and got chatting to him, letting him know that his car had featured a few times on the internet - he mentioned that he was happy to keep it running as long as he could, and was surprised to hear that it was "known".

1 owner from new this. Last tax disc read 2001. Had a good look around it, started first tip and sounded sweet.

A few photos from the Swords show today. Great day, shame about the weather at the early stages, but it cleared up nicely. Nice display of cars this year, nice to meet some owners and it was nice to see the Wolseley being admired also. First show of many, hopefully :)

When I say "original irish reg", then I mean reg. I don't mean, that the car was originally registered in Ireland or not.

    Doesn't matter.

I just prefer the old type of registration, especially for classic cars. The currently year (or half year) type of registration is a pure consumer scam. The older reg adds character. Especially with the cars that have them getting thin on the ground.

I agree totally with all of the above...esp the highlighted bit!

That's a 1984 Dublin reg but the car could be several years older than that.

This car is made in 1983, therefore it is a youngtimer (a car made in 1980s - like BMW E30, Volvo 340/360 + 700 series, Ford Sierra, Porsche 944, Opel Manta etc.). It doesn't matter that you can get a classic insurance/motor tax for it.

Btw. Vintage cars are vehicles made between 1919-1930.

Well. The article you referenced to says, that cars made after 1970 is a youngtimer. So your definition is different from that article, too.

That website also says stuff like: "An example is Great Britain, where a historic vehicle is one over 25 years of age and is exempt from car tax."

Which has been bull since years. I think the UK are introducing a 40 year rolling rule for VED this or next year, after 10 years of having a non rolling rule. I dont know the specifics or want to get into them, I'm merely pointing out that just because a website writes something down, doesnt mean the whole world has to believe OR agree with it. If you show me a law that says something is an oldtimer/youngtimer great, otherwise its all just opinion that differs from place to place and person to person.
