We were very much in the title hunt in season 96/97 but we somehow managed to finish 4th in the end and miss out even on CL football.

It all fell apart after the 3-1 defeat at home to Utd (tho prob the biggest blow was Coventry coming from behind to beat us 2-1 at Anfield) and the final nail in the coffin was a 2-1 defeat at Selhurst Park to Wimbledon, it was the night Owen scored on his debut.

The Utd game was particularly sad as it sparked the beginning of the end of John Barnes Liverpool career (even tho he scored in that game)

I remember that season and it was heartbreaking . Roy Evans Liverpool team really where a great team except for the defence . Roy didn't seem to know what a defender was at .
I remember Gary Neville talking about his 3-5-2 and saying how hard it was to play against it . He was saying it dragged players all over the shop and out of position a lot .

With Roy Evans team when they were good they were absolutely brilliant but when they were bad they were truly awful!

Rodgers team kinda reminds me of a much more consistent version of the 96/97 season. I loved that team with Fowler, McManaman, Barnes, McAteer, Scales, Wright, Jones, Ruddock, Redknapp and Berger. Plus Collymore when he could be arsed!

Roy Evans' Liverpool were what got me following the club. It helped that there was Irish players in the side. I will never ever forget the 4-3 match against Newcastle. I think that happened 2 seasons in a row that we won 4-3 against Newcastle?

Yeah it did. The first one is the one everyone remembers, but the following season Liverpool were 3 up with 20 minutes to go but needed a last minute goal to win 4-3.

The first one was the first Anfield game I went to. I should probably go to the last game of this season then....?

My heart might give out if we go through another 4-3.

Wow, No American Football, Baseball pays so much when it's less international than the other two american sports.

Back to football. Thinking of the squads I would have thought Chelsea had more high wage earners than UTD.

There's a salary cap in American football.

A Chelsea fan is being investigated over comments made on Facebook yesterday about Hillsborough. The clever chap also posted a picture of his ticket to the game in Anfield in a few weeks.

Much to the joy of 32 Owner's pockets. I do like it, though.

Between that and the draft system, it does mean that every team can dream, that their team could win something over a decade or two. No relegation worries, and knowing that if you have a TERRIBLE year, you get a leg-up with the top draft pick...

I think this is the first time I've liked an Everton manager :o

    Class act

Unless, of course, you draft like the Raiders.

    Sorry, Chucky :pac:

It was never confirmed, think it was more to do with the city then the football club. I love that album as well, apart from the end of that song.

Not good i'd say. He tends to be slow recovery wise from an injury.

They can ask for exceptions, usually for senior players who miss out cause of injury. He's probably the only one. Aspas, Alberto and Agger would all be fine.
Kelly won't be, I wonder if they will ask for an exception there as well?

Don't the winning club get a few extra medals to hand out to the players they see fit or deserving of one .

But we don't even know if it's a real injury, or just a precaution. He didn't pull up as if it was a tear, it may have just been a few days rest and some massages...

I think you need to see video footage of him coming off to see what his movement was like so you could make up your mind on the injury .

That's correct, just saw the following from Sir Alex last summer -

"They [the fringe players] will get medals. It’s changed now. They give you an allocated number of medals and it’s up to you to distribute them how you want. We’ll distribute the way we think is fair."

    But let's win them first!
