If Brendan Rodgers can win the Premier League title with Liverpool this season, some of his fellow managers will not be happy.
While José Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini have been bickering over whose club is more like a little horse and Arsène Wenger has been complaining about the way his rivals spend their money, Rodgers has been accelerating past them with a team that is paid less money but wins more matches and scores more goals.
Liverpool pay their players handsomely – on average €4.1 million per man per year – but those figures are some way short of the annual salaries paid by Arsenal (€4.72 million), Chelsea (€4.83 million), Manchester United (€5.21 million) and Manchester City (€6.4 million).

Wow, No American Football, Baseball pays so much when it's less international than the other two american sports.

Back to football. Thinking of the squads I would have thought Chelsea had more high wage earners than UTD.

Pretty amazed that our average salary is €90k a week. The only players I can think of that are breaking that are Walcott, Ozil and maybe Ramsey's new deal.

Anyways; interesting question for you all; I doubt very much at the start of the season, with the Suarez transfer debacle, the unhappiness with the lack of new signings and indeed missing Suarez until the end of Sept, that any of you thought you had a chance at the league - what was the point where you said to yourself "you know what we actually have a decent chance here"? The 5-1 shoeing of Arsenal? The 3-0 shoeing of United?

To be honest I reckon Baseball is far more international than american football and Basketball.

Massive in Japan and very popular in Latin America also. Lots of people in those markets

Ah no for me it was our performances in December. Despite 3 losses that month the quality of the performances were really starting to pick up. The Everton 4-0 game was another real eye opener of where the team were and their potential. Wouldnt have said back then we would be top of the league with 4 games to go but certainly started to believe this was a very good team.

Right after Gerrard's penalty against Fulham, as he wheeled away swinging his jersey above his head. You kind of had to stop playing it down completely then.

NFL salaries are a real mixed bag, firstly they have the cap anyway so I think on average it would be impossible for any team to get on this list, with a 53 man roster and something like a $130 million salary cap, then the average is something in and around the $2.5 million mark if the full cap is used up by a team.

The top QBs are paid as highly as anyone in world sports, in fact I think the top 3 or 4 are the highest paid sports people in the world.

American Football all teams have an agreed salary cap that nobody is meant to go above. From the look of the list it works well.
The salary cap works on the team roster usually, so a lot of the time it means if you have a few well paid players the rest are taking the hit.

To be honest I didn't think we would or could win it until we beat City. We have an incredible chance. Would be very nice though for Chelsea to drop points between now and when we play then. But I'd be worried about every game we have. But please God we can finish it off.

Huge in Korea and Taiwan as well. It's definitely a more international game than American Football anyway, evidenced by the fact the American national team often lose.

The comeback against Fulham really showed the team character.

That game transformed the team from Pretenders to Contenders.

When the Anfield wrap podcast start saying champions elect. Which was very early in the season. They just reckoned it was a mad season and we were a mad team that scored mad goals so why not. Even when results didn't go our way I still let my mind have a laugh and enjoy it. Ever since then it's been a very unclear move into where we are now. Which is I don't know where. C'MON!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but for me it was only after the United 0-3 match that I felt we were genuine challengers. That came on the back of a 0-3 against Southampton, and most would have been quite happy with 4 points from those 2 games.

The United win, the manner of it too, was when we went (imo) from outsider/underdog/longshots to being genuine title challengers.

I didn't quite want to get ahead of myself before then, I thought it was too early to be talking us being real players in the title race.

Think the extent of the Sturridge injury will be crucial.

I know he hadn't been firing on all cylinders lately, but he still popped up with important goals. His ability to finish a half chance is top notch and those half chances from here on could be title deciding.

    Any word on Sturridge?

Really hope he is ok for Chelsea. They couldnt handle him last year....he has a point to prove against them.

It's only really hit me since the City game that this really is it. In the 20 or so years I've been following Liverpool we've never mustered up a title challenge as genuine as this one. I don't remember it ever being in our own hands nearly so late in the season. In 08/09 we were always playing catchup, and I did think that if we were to challenge this season, it would be a late charge, overtaking Chelsea or Man City in the last couple of weeks.

The mentality and spirit of the players has been first class. But the tests are only going to get harder.
Norwich, Chelsea and Palace will all be tough games. Come through them and Newcastle looks like a banker. But if there is a Premier League title on the line there is no such thing.

My fear with the injury is Sturridge doesn't do small injuries and it didn't look good when he was going off vs city. I'm very worried he's gone for the season.

Obviously with events yesterday the club wouldn't announce anything but I remember the last time BR said Daniel had a small injury he was out for 6 weeks.

He's not been his best last few games but such a fast direct player , opposition defenders really struggle to keep SSS in place during a game. We don't have any one remotely of same quality to replace him from the bench and a lot of talk of Lucas and Allen coming in which in a big rejig of team. The expectation Suarez can just go into beast mode again and score loads of goals a big ask . Hope I'm worrying too much about nothing But really fancy is to best Chelsea if Sturridge fit , not sure without him.

It was notable that Suarez looked less effective in the last game without Sturridge on the pitch (or when on the pitch, not 100% himself.

But I think Sterling and Coutinho can support him just as well, as long as it's just Norwich. We will need every trick to score against Chelsea, they are very stingy...

I suppose Fulham is when I stopped laughing at the thought of us winning it.

United was when I started thinking, hey we're going to actually be involved in the title run in, for sure.

West Ham/Man City games, coinciding with other results leading up to it, means I actually am now really starting to believe we could do it. I would be immensely disappointed if we don't, if still very proud of the progress/achievement.

Still not getting ahead of myself yet, and I genuinely haven't told a single person I know, "I think we're going to win the league". Still playing it down to the full! :pac:

Fulham game made me believe that they had the ability and were going for it.
Liverpool teams of old, even those under St Rafa, would have dropped points in the past in games like that.

Utd game was a confirmation of their potential as I fully expected them to win that game as they had from and Utd's was poor.

City game on Sunday has me 99% convinced that they're going to do it. To go 2 up against a top side and have them came back at you is tough. To then have the balls and calmness to get another goal and then see the game out is a mark of champions in my opinion.

Also think everyone is handling it correct. Rodgers is not losing the run of himself and talking about one game at a time and the huddle at the end of the City showed what the captain is doing.

I think form, momentum and attitude is with Liverpool now and it should get them over the line. I hope I'm right anyway!

Looking at our last four game i still think we'll finish 3rd tbh. Really worried about the Palace and Chelsea games and if Sturridge is out we are in deep sh1te. Still be very very happy with 3rd given where we where at the start of the season.

    Absolutely.

Not a single one of the 4 games will I be feeling like it's a banker. The pressure will be huge. Slip-ups can happen.

Our last couple of 'easy' home matches?

    Swansea 3-2
    Sunderland 2-1

I'm not banking on any single one of these matches!

Beating Fulham away 3-2, coming from 2-1 down and the Gerrard penalty to win it. Arsenal and Everton was more "we're bloody good aren't we and we'll get 4th", Fulham was "bloody hell, it's years since we won a dog fight like that, it's on, why bloody not?"

You would have to say, the way we have been playing at home, coupled with their recent form and our usual record against them - it's the perfect final game.
But we have work to do first...
