Hi folks,

I have an 8 year old Specialized Sirrus, which I occasionally use for my 10km daily commute. I'd use the bike daily if it weren't for the long fecker of a climb I have on the way home from work :-)

Rather than sell a perfectly good bike and go with an ebike/pedelec, I'm considering kitting the bike out with a conversion kit. I see that there are a few Irish suppliers including Kenbay and GoEco. Prices aren't bad compared to those for ebikes, but I'd like to hear from someone else who has gone the conversion kit route.

Has anyone got any experience with these kits? Are they cheap Chinese imports, or are they quality components?

BTW, I found what looks like a well-regarded kit from a supplier in the UK - Oxydrive (http://www.oxydrive.co.uk/electric-bike-kit/index.html). The kit comes in at €1,000, but it looks a good deal higher quality than the noname kits I've seen from Irish suppliers. If anyone has tried one, I'd love to here from you.

I was using one for a while, 800w chinese hub motor with controller and 3 7ah lead acid batteries. It was alright but the batterybag tore easy and the inline fuse gave trouble once. The batteries werent really upto the job and my range was less tha 10km, so after orderimg some 20ah lifepo4 batteries now

The hub motor and 10kg worth of batteries gives quite a bit of resistance so when the battery dies tis like cycling through black treacle
