    Hi all,

Looks like I will be soon purchasing an smax and I am faced with a small dilemma.

Should I go for a new smax zetec for 34.5k or a 2012 smax titanium for 28k?

I am leaning towards the titanium but still undecided.....

Titanium has more toys than the Zetec but that example seems expensive at €28k for a 2 year old example.

    Here is one for €25k:

Also take note that the current S-Max has been around since 2007 and an all new model is due early next year.

Current S-Max Zetec models have Nav fitted as standard. If you are a decent negotiator, you'd get a new S-Max Zetec, in Metallic, with Leather fitted (aftermarket, but a decent job and makes a huge difference to the interior) for €33,000.

Won't have the chrome trim, colour dash or auto dimming rear view mirror that the Titanium had, but more effecient engine and decent warranty. Not many S-Max's available from stock though, so you may have to wait 10-12 weeks on a new one.

I was having the dilemma a few months ago. I ended up getting a new s max zetec, and haven't regretted it, it has sat nav, Cruise Control, privacy glass, 17' alloys all as standard.
The main reason I went new was for the 5 year warranty and servicing.
If your willing to seriously haggle you'll get it alot cheaper than €33k

I will have a 08 Citroen C4 grand picasso to trade in against the smax, the dealer has told me that I should get between 8-10k for this depending on whether I go for a new or used smax.

Does having a trade in significantly reduce my negotiating position?

Probably would, I was dealing straight because the dealer didn't want my car so I sold it private.

I was budgeting €2,000 for a leather interior - something that not only changes the look of the interior completely, but is also very practical for wiping up the type of stuff kids leave in cars.....
