Could they just not run a bus up and down the quays?

I thought the boat rides they offered already were nice enough.

You'd get great views of the street crime below and would presumably be immune to it up there.

It's not the worst idea I've ever heard and you could see the appeal for tourists. Seems like they'd be going for the same kind of market that something like the London Eye does but I'd imagine something like a four point cable car would be a lot more expensive to run and maintain.

Four eighty metre towers would be really attractive.

Not knocking it but is there really that much to see?

    And look ugly.

The air space above Dublin - new rich pickings for the gougers.

    from what I understood it's 2 80m towers and 2 smaller ones.
I agree with you though, it will be an eyesore.

I'd love to see 4 towers planted along the Liffey just to give people a view of the city
80 million Euro wasted IMO... Would work well in the mountains but not through the middle of the city.

Well its being privately funded, so its not a waste. Its not like its coming out of Dublin city coffers.

I quite like the idea but as my father says, if you want to do anything in Ireland a committee immediately forms to stop you.

Well we can be thankful of that if this rubbish is prevented.

So maybe they could build a drag strip instead :D
    That I'd favour :)

This idea would be class.... In Amsterdam or Paris. Not so much in Dublin. There isn't a lot to see

Even heading up Croagh Patrick it would look nice, get a sunny day and the views are spectacular.
Makes more sense if it's connected to nature rather than city life.

Any move away from ugly, boring, repetitive Georgian Architecture gets my vote. If the towers are nice they could be attractions in themselves.

Where was the committee to stop them putting up the spire? Massive waste of money and it looks stupid.

I dont know what to make of this idea, i can see why they want a kind of tourist attraction but could just be an eye sore as suggested! Sure we will see what happens!

Feck going up and down The Quays.

Build it from Town out to the Airport and give it a purpose.

Save a fortune digging holes in the ground for Metro North, yet address the issue of public transport to the place in one go.

Kill two birds with the one stone like.

And probably a few blind ones in the air too. :pac:

Sure the taxi drivers wouldnt like the idea of anything transporting passengers from and to the airport!

I actually don't mind the Spire, would have looked better if the whole thing was lit up and not just the top part.
I'd be very surprised if this plan was actually given the go-ahead..

Would doubt it would even be worth while there, unless one of the terminals was linked to a tourist attraction, say on top of a hill.

The one that was built in London for the Olympics to bring people across The Thames has had very little uptake in terms of regular use. I know Dublin is behind the rest of the world on transport infrasture, but this would be a huge waste of money in my opinion. If its just to give views of the City, there is already the Sky Walk at Croke Park, the bar on the top of the Guinness Storehouse, or why not just build a wheel near The Point/O2.

Was on a plane last week flying out of Dublin.

It's quite an ugly city from above, in fact all of the Irish cities look poor.

Was thinking the exact same thing the other day. Amazed at how some people manage to get down that, let alone up it.

I was in Salzburg at the beginning of March and we took a cable car up the top of a mountain.
Lovely views and with the rigidity of the car you couldn't feel much wind. Prolem was it wasn't cheap, 20e per ticket.
I think it would be a fantastic idea.

there was a wheel down at the Point a few years ago, i think people on this christened it "Harry's Hoop'
it wasn't much of a success as far as i remember.
