I was hoping for a Wigan victory today, but just realised that Arsenal winning the FA cup will probably drag either Man U or Spurs into the Europa league next year. I'll be shouting hard for Arsenal in the final!

No . If Arsenal win and finish higher than 6th then the runners up will go into the EL.

Really? So only 5th place in the league will get a Europa spot?

81% possession for Barca. Has anyone ever seen higher than that?!

A lot of good it did them.

Suso's on the Bench against Real Madrid.
He's been a bit off the boil in the last few weeks I'm afraid :(

Has Ilori any chance at making the world cup squad does anyone know? Has he played a senior game for Portugal yet?

I said it from just about day 1 and I will say it again. Ilori has all the physical and technical attributes to be a top defender for us. He was the class act in the Sporting team, and today he didn't look at all out of place against Barcelona. However, before we start proclaiming him as the next messiah, we need to see how he copes in the Premier League. I have high hopes for him, but until he strings a few games together for us, I will not be counting any chickens.

No . If Arsenal win and finish higher than 6th then the runners up will go into the EL.

My understanding of the rules is that if Arsenal finish in the Top 4 and win the FA Cup then the runners up go into the EL. Rule 2.04.
However if Arsenal win the Cup and finish 5th then they will go into the EL via the FA Cup route and the extra place will go to the 7th place finisher in the League. Rule 2.02.

So going by that Arsenal 5th and winning the cup would mean that Spurs and MUFC are both in the EL.

I thought that wasnt happening until the 2015/2016 season when the runners up no longer will be allowed qualify?

Genuinely don't know about the future rules as I don't think they are published yet and the papers usually make a bollox of interpreting the headline information and what it actually means.

My link is the current 2013/14 regulations and going by that it looks like the Cup place is passed down to the runners-up only if the winners have qualified for the Champions League.

Would anyone be disappointed or concerned if we went into next season with Ilori and Sakho as our starting CB pairing? I honestly wouldn't mind myself, but if I'm honest and as I've said a few times before, I have a feeling he (Ilori) is a year out from really getting his chance here.
