What's the problem? Awkward hoseclips? I usually bin any awkward springy clips in frustration and use jubilee clips.

Dont think the clips have much to do with it, they're only pieces of metal that act as a spring to lock them once on. Might try dipping the hoses in hot water for a few seconds, and then sticking them on to get them to play ball. Might do the trick!

Bit of vaseline in the innards of the pipe will help it slip on ;)

Another option if you don't have vaseline is take oil off the dipstick and smear it around the inside of the pipe. Got me out of a hole with a turbo intake pipe one time.

This is probably a stupid question, but it was the cause of a big debate earlier (regarding the purpose of car insurance, etc.).

If I smash my car into boards HQ, and my car is worth €500, and the repair bill is €1,000, then my car is considered an economic write off, yes? In this scenario, an insurance company will 'buy' your car off you, or replace it for you with a car of your choice of similar value? (Or am i WAYYYY off there?).

However, what happens if your car is naturally damaged beyond economic repair. For example, if I have a €500 car, and my timing belt goes, causing a bill of €1,000, what happens?

On one side of the debate, I'm saying that you haven't had an accident, so insurance company couldn't give a feck.

On the other side, he's saying that insurance is there to cover the cost of repairing or replacing items, and that general wear and tear would be part of this process? If a car is unexpectedly damaged beyond economic repair, it's akin to insuring my camera and getting a replacement when I accidentally drop it on the ground, breaking it.

Wondering if Boards has the answer..?

Isn't it ok to bring a passport as a form of ID for the NCT instead of a Driving License?

I'm having a bit of a row with my insurance company at the moment,
They sent me a statement of fact for my new policy and on it, it states....
    Area of use North Tipperary.

So I rang them and they said "oh that just means, mainly used in North Tipp"

Me: "well why doesn't it say that?"

Long story short they say they can't change it but to be assured that it doesn't mean what it says. On a statement of FACT:confused:

Am I just being a pedantic dick?

But to be serious, yes I'd imagine so if it's purpose is to be ID.

Last time I was at the NCT, the tester asked me "Do you have your driving licence with ya?"

...but I assume passport should be acceptable too.

I think they need the license to confirm the driver number on it, that's what they done with me today

Request it in writing from them. They'll get their act together if they have to put it on paper.

PLEASE PREPARE FOR YOUR NCT BY ENSURING THAT:
Your car has adequate oil and water.
The boot is empty and seats are clear of all belongings.
The vehicle is reasonably clean (especially the underbody).
The wheel hubcaps are removed (only in the case where wheel nuts are not visible) and the tyres are inflated to the correct pressure.
The engine is in a fit state to be tested e.g. cam belt/timing belt. You will be asked to sign a disclaimer at the test centre.
All seat belts and clips are fully visible (including rear).
We also recommend that you have your lights checked and set prior to the NCT.
Your Vehicle Registration Book, Registration Certificate or Licensing Certificate is with you when you arrive at the test centre.
This letter of confirmation is brought to the test centre on the day of your test.
Please also ensure you bring identification (driving licence or passport only) with you as you will be asked to produce this when presenting your vehicle for inspection at the Test Centre.

Passport is fine. From the NCT confirmation mail.

Lads is it possible to get 20/25mm lowering springs?? All I can seem to find for mine is 30mm, Just for speed bumps and all that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

Would 5mm really make much of a difference? See if you can get coilovers, then you can have it as low as you want, but they might be a bit more expensive. Or perhaps see if there's anyone who makes custom springs.

Coilovers for mine are €1200+ springs are €280, I guess what I'm getting at is, will 30mm make a difference or not?

Difference in looks? Perhaps. If you photoshop a picture of your car then you'll be able to tell. Maybe a set of overfenders will make it look lower or something. :P

Step 1: Get some heavy plastic sheeting
step 2: lay it in the boot, rear foot wells and passengers foot well
step3: fill car with rocks until it is at the desired level
Step 4: drive over some speed bumps

If it's OK like that the lowering springs will be fine:pac::pac:

Well that's my best idea so far…..

All the plan for big power and you're willing to skimp in the suspension.
Suspension, tyres and brakes first and to the best standard.

You'd get them second hand cheaper anyway and they'd still be a much better option unless you're changing you're shocks to match.
