Rang revenue with chassis number/details on a 2006 cv8 monaro with 40k miles that I was looking at buying for just under 8k sterling.

    4500e

Are they out of their minds ? Was thinking 2k-2.5k or so

Personally i wonder what their thinking is on these values - as youd think in many cases - it might be better for Revenue to have LOWER values - but actually as a result - have more people importing.

In short - Revenue/NCT are epically clueless imo - its time they realised that 2nd hand imports ARE GOOD for them in terms of bringing in revenue - so attractive VRT rates are the way to go*

You could do it overtime - to help not wreck Irish car values overnight - maybe do in it conjunction with reductions in new car VRT as well

*would be nicer to have no VRT at all - but that's unlikely to happen

Drive shaft oil seal is going. Still driving OK, just dripping a tiny bit.

EDIT: Seal on gearbox for driveshaft

I had to do that on the focus well one of the many seals that had to be done on it. I don't think it cost that much to do. I was getting so much work done on it at that time when it was in the mechanics so don't know exactly how much it cost to do the seal. It wasn't huge money either way.

Rad in, all hoses connected. Cheers for the advice lads, I used a little engine oil to lube the pipes and then just nudged them into place. System is pressurized and no obvious leaks. Now time for NCT at 4:45! Its just a retest, headlight alignment should be grand.

I'm gonna give another guy a call on Monday about it.

Jesus how much are those new? I thought the vrt was based on the rrp? An 08 335 is only about 2-2.5k to vrt

    Only 32k sterling I think.

She said it was a quote so it might be different on the day ?

    Some laugh

VRT is done on emissions - if the cars too old to have c02 emissions figures - it will be taxed at 36 percent (I think) which is the max figure.

Or if its in the top band for co2 emissions - over 225 grm co2 per km - which the Monaro presumably is - that's 36 percent too.

BMW were working to get down the emissions to low levels back in 08 so its possible the 335 has low emissions for what it is.

Which could reduce the VRT on the 335

335i is sub 225 by a hair alright.

1200 a year to tax so second highest tax tier as co2 goes.

1200??? There was a 2008 335i for sale on carzone at one stage and it was emissions based tax and €750 for the year.

Everything is better with lube Alan:pac:

Isn't the highest emissions based tax over €2000?

This isn't mine per say, its a trade-in from this week that I just have for the weekend since the Supra isn't ready yet. Its the best thing that was available really.

I'm looking at a car that's advertised online for around 7900. It'll need tax in a month, and it's taxed as a 1.7
A similar car, a year older, with more miles, but also full documentation and history is being offered for 4000.

Would I be cheeky in offering 5,900 for the first car, considering the price of the second?

Both are dealer cars and seem to be otherwise identical.

    Yeah Baby :D

    ri8dfl.jpg

    Defo wasn't expecting that!
Pass/advisory on the back left tyre, it was under 3mm and was over 6 years old :o
And the high idle lambda was 1.02, it says if it was between 0.97 and 1.03 it fails, so I don't know what the story is there, but I'm not complaining :p

Clearly go for the one with the full history if both the history and the car checks out ok.

Both are dealer cars. One dealer is SIMI. And there was a technical change over the year that does make me interested in the newer car. (I think it has a stronger starter motor). That, and it's a type with a notoriously finnicky engine.

So the price does concern me. It makes me wonder why it's so cheap.

    SIMI means nothing

    SIMI means nothing

Exactly this - they are essentially just a lobby group for dealers in the same way the IFA are for farmers

It would look odd if a dealer wasn't an SIMI member but other then that - it doesn't mean a lot really to a buyer imo

Yeah,... it's just one of those ones where you don't know whether to facepalm or start a google search on how much it would be to ship it here. :pac:

Pred......... I've just been for a 'drive' in the Alfa. Super handling, it's the first time I really pushed it but those bloody hazard lights are a pain as others can easily see what I'm at. I also terrorised some boy racers in a Golf TIIDDY AYE.

Much fun has been had this evening
