Ollie is a good friend of mine and I could sort out anything thats needed for the night, the problem with Skerries is the pubs are a bit of a walk from the train station :(

Now now, stop throwing up obstacles, my OH is also a non drinker, and a bit of a pet, and he'd happily collect people if we could coordinate it and be sure of a parking space :D

Sure we can chat through it :)

I'd love to see you at an inaugural beers, you're a real bond on this forum, the amount of people i've met through this forum who chat about your and your boats is unreal.

We're only a small group of people, so we should be able to trash it out :)

So what sort of time of day are we talking about for this? I've no problem having it in Skerries so we can get Fergal along but it would be nice if it's early enough that public transport will still be running..?

Oh and where's neris in all this? Has he poked an oar in?

If I'm bring the boat down for a spin the best dates in May would be friday the 16 and 30 but that is lunch time other than that the 23rd late evening and weather permitting, there are also some good pubs along the harbour Blue, Joe may's and stoop your head. (I can't do the 9th son's Confirmation)

Sh1tbag OToole Goats are highly respected in Skerries :)

30th best for me, not working at all around then.

Followed by 23rd (wouldn't get there till evening).

Followed by 16th (would be working at 11pm).

Would have to be an after-work time if its a weekday for me.

Maybe we should keep it simple for the first time? There's all summer for spins in boats....:D

If we can get a few of us together to meet up for the first time for a pint/coffee it'd be great, lots of summer (hopefully) ahead of us to build on that!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,957 ✭✭✭miss no stars

Yeah I think keeping it simple is probably best for now. If it's a Friday would anyone object to a start time around 1900? Saturday could be earlier due to not being in work if that suited people. Or are you all night owls?

I'm guessing most people won't want to be driving (maybe?) and I just did a quick check, there's a bus from Skerries to the city centre at 2300, from where we can all disperse in our separate ways. So Skerries is definitely feasible in terms of time and accessibility.

    I'd be on for this!

I'll vote now, but row in with whatever if I'm free.

We'd a "lets clean up the boat, fix a few niggles" day today on my boat

As it's the one in four/five weekends that my OH's kids are not about I brought him along to meet my fellow crew etc.

After introductions he went and did landlubber things then we all met up for drinks after several hours hard work.

OH is still a little green after the conversation! Heeheee

And nowhere near being encouraged to give sailing a try after it either!

No sign of neris, I'll give him a prod when he next posts?

So here's a suggestion, given that Friday 23rd May is one for fergal, and there are public transport options, how would people feel about an inaugural meetup from 7pm in Ollies in Skerries on May 23rd? Fergal could do the honors and reserve us one of the big roundy booths (he'll know what I mean) and see if we can get platters? Though tbh there is plenty of nibbly stuff on the Ollies menu

I'm not a night owl and will be dead on my feet by 11 :D

I can cajole the Oh into meeting people at the train and we might have another volunteer to do so also?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,957 ✭✭✭miss no stars

Just had a look on a map, sure it's only a stroll from the train station!

Any thoughts on this guys? (apologies to the women on here I use the term in a gender neutral way)

    Sounds good to me :)

Not sure I've ever been to Skerries in my entire life, so it'll be a bit of an adventure in more ways than one :D

Sounds good to me too :) I will have to put in a request for respite to see if I can get it so I can't say 100% yet and I won't get an answer from them till closer the time but hopefully it will be ok.

Well at least it's a few weeks in advance, and even if you stuck the head in for five minutes I'm sure we'd be glad :)

Best of luck with it :) My parents used to do respite care for children, so I can well understand how difficult it must be in current times.

I should be there also, just to add in another from DL! Mind you today was the last day working in the yacht club, off to the real world of jobs and pleasure boating rather than working at it! I'll have to keep my foot in the door of teaching though :)

Off to the big bad world of working for Mars as a Merchandiser on the road. Ah sure I'll still be around the place a bit, not to mention Lift in on Saturday!

Oh, and we were looking for your number earlier about your lift, maybe give the guys a shout tomorrow and leave it with them!

Best of luck with it (real life, that is!)! Might see you Saturday, there's a RO meeting in the club that I hope to get out to, work permitting.

I'll give the bh a shout tomorrow.

    Now, back on topic :D

Sounds like a plan - hope I can manage it! 7pm in Skerries on a Friday might be a problem for me though :(

If you get there for eight or even nine should be fine Steve :)

Fergal, any chance you'd take on booking us one of those bigger booths at the front?

No problem, I might wait and see how many we have in total closer to the time and get two booths at the back, I might be bringing my boat widow as she is interested to meet the people I spend more time with than her "Don't worry she won't be armed" :D If others are bringing their other half or friend could you put plus one next to your name please so nobody is left standing.
