just wondering has anyone ever hurt their back and have ye any tips, i hurt mine a few years ago, got difene injection and was fine. My mother hurt hers about a month ago. Very bad, only relief when lying down. Cant even bear blankets on her. She got the injection a week or so later and got a few days relief. She got the injection yesterday andonly got a few hours relief. She got an mri done and there was an appointment requested for a neurosurgeon, she waited a week and rang his office to be told he is on holidays til mid may and he has no stand in:eek::eek:. She has an appointment tomorrow with another neurosurgeon, have any of ye any tips to relief the pain, she is using those heat pads-deep heat- and is maxed out on painkillers. There is damage between 2 of the cartiliges(sp) in her spine. Any ideas?

If she is in the bed I find a hot water bottle is better than the patches , and to stay what ever way is comfortable until she starts to feel better . Did the doc give her any diefene tablets ? I find they help a bit aswell

Would the heat pads that ladies use for that special time of the month work on the affected area

My mother is just nearing mid 50s now and used to have awful back pain. She has arthritis starting in her left hand now as well.
What her and my dad do is when ever they are getting a bath they put magnesium powder in it.
Not sure how much but I'll find out. Something like a cup I think.
It has helped her emensly and never has an aching back now at all.
She gets a 25kg bag from animal health in tullow. Lasts a long time

If you can get your hands on some Ponson or Tradol 50mg they may help with the pain, but no tablet will sort the underlying cause. Last resort would be OxyContin, 5mg, slow release. but when you get to that stage you are on the serious stuff. No chemist will give them to you, even doctors are going to be reluctant. Nek.

I would suffer a good bit on and off..

Tablet wise when I get a bout I take Diffene & Norgesic together.
I will admit that I'll also knock down plenty of Solpadene as well, hard to beat codine when your suffering. Short term they are fine to take.
And alcohol is great releif and gets you off to sleep. On top of all above of course :o
The doctor gave me Zydol to take once to help me sleep, TBH I couldn't take it as I was just out of it the next day..

You can get injections as above from doc but this seems no good in your case..
I had Morphene injection in doctors and it was great but a real last ditch job, but only lasted maybe 24/36 hours.

How abut a TENS machine, I've considered buying one in the past, if it gets a woman through labour it cant be bad !!
Maybe you could borrow one somewhere.

I know I've said it here before, but Rory Murphy (chiropodist) in Mullingar is very good. I was told the same thing, cartriliges, live with it etc, but he seems to be able to straighten the whole spine and stop the pain. he doesn't hurt and only charges about €40...I call it 6 weeks physio in 10 mins.

I suffered for years from my late teens onwards, went to numerous chiropractors, physiotherapists etc, (not a great believer in injections etc for reasons I won't disclose)

eventually in DEC. 1999, some body recommended a Bowen Technique Therapist

long story short I never looked back since, the relief I got after years of agony was unbelievable

I rather not go into personal details in public, but if you wish me to pm or ring you just let know

Are you sure he's a Chiropodist ?? I doubt having her toe nails cut will help..
Is he not a Chiropractor ??
Chiropractors are mad men... huge manipulations of spine and joints without having any real idea what is going on inside. I have a friend who was in hospital for three months and has a permanent limp because a Chiropractor damaged his spine. I heard some countries were proposing banning them altogether !

correct...too much lambing is my only excuse.
I was bad at the time, and someone recommended him, it was either that or a risky op. Its not a cure but it is control, never have pain.
Have been to guys that are rough but Murphy isn't, he doesn't hurt, you won't be given a handful of painkillers going out the door
This guy straightens babies some way, there could be half a dozen babies in the waiting room as well, something to do with colic.
