4k monitor build

I reckon this is a first in this forum

So my new monitor will either be
Samsung U28D590
or
AOC U2868PQU

Im not sure which one ill go for ye, so maybe someone can advice on that

My current build is

Corsair 750D
16gb ram
MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING
Corsair CMPSU-750HX Professional Series 750W Power Supply
Intel Core i5-4670K (will be over clocked)
GPU's ??

Im missing a 2 graphic cards now which I hope be 780TI range (not going near amd jet engines)

Im thinking 2 of these

Can you still build a PC that costs 4k and if so what in the name of christ do you plan on using it for?
I spent 4k buying my first car. Still have it 7 plus years later.

I think there's a bit of a mix up. Its 4k monitor build. ie graphic cards to run games on a 4k monitor

The new amd 295x2 would do a nice job, supposedly out the week of the 21st and priced at $1500. Good write up and benchmark of it up on toms hardware

Really between two r9 290's or two 780's. Although you may need to up the power supply for the two R9 290's, pretty power hungry!

My opinion? Way too early for 4k monitor builds.

4k monitor it self is not an issue. Actual horse power to run it is. I don't really think that current gpu solutions are even remotely "normal" even for epenis enlargement enthusiasts.

I would wait for next gen gpus and whole dx12 jazz. I have a feeling that jump in performance will be a lot bigger next gen, then it was in the last few gens.

^^ completely agree...4K is murdering video cards at the moment...I'd hold off on 4K for at least another year possibly 2.
Better off getting a 30" monitor at 2560x1600 and 2 x 780GTX etc.

even AMD's latest beast struggles at 4K

Would you consider 2 EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Classified ACX Cooler for SLi? It’s the top of the range 780 card that kicked the Titan’s ass in every review. It also runs cool and quite, check out some review links below.

I was like yourself, I was on the cusp of going the 780Ti route. But I literally stumbled across the EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Classified ACX Cooler review. Checked it out a lot more and just thought at its current pricing, it gives great performance for a great price.

Im currently looking at the Radeon R9 295X2. I like the thoughts of the cooling but ill have to do some more homework

Seems the best card to go for at the moment?

I would definitely consider 2 R9 290's. The price to performance ratio is unreal, close to 780Ti and so much cheaper. I think calling them 'jet engines' is living in the past, there's any amount of fantastic 3rd party cooler options. You could get a high quality pair of them for about E750.

I generally prefer Nvidia but I really don't see the value in the current gen's pricing at all.

Came across this,a decent set of benchmarks for 4K with all the flag ship gpus and also in crossfire/sli. Most of the benches are on maximum detail,all eye candy on. Unfortunately no 290's in there,just the 290X

4K needs a lot of juice:(

Well, that just proves that going 4k with current GPUs is the same as putting your money in to the drain. Yes, you will get 4k, but it would be more frustrating then actually cool.

Vram finally does REALLY matters now. At that resolution is there even any point in AA?

do amd cards still gun much hotter than nvidia under normal loads?

Nvidia always seem to be poor value compared to amd at the higher end.

Cant speak for 4K as ive never used it but at 1440p its less important,usually find the lowest AA setting sufficent for most games.

The 290 and 290X run hotter than there Nvidia counterparts usually,the rest of the AMD range wouldnt though. Also a lot depends on cooling,reference AMD is pants buts some of the aftermarket coolers do a good job on the 290 and 290x,msi gaming springs to mind with the twin frozr cooler,good reviews. Also the sapphire tri-x cooler.

TL;DR Some AMD cards do run hot but a decent aftermarket cooler brings the temps more in line with what most people would be used to

Did you watched the whole video m8? 780ti were tanking to very low minimum FPS due to Vram bottleneck.

Yeah i watched it all,and yes the Ti's were struggling with the 3gb vram,4K was pushing vram usage up to between 3-4gb vram in some of the benches

Well, that. Ti's ran in to a wall at 3gb Vram and it was effecting the performance and scores.
Check again video, on some benches Ti's had stupidly low minimum fps. I cant remember was that due to actual game/bench limited to 3gb ram or 3gb ti's limit. Aither way, you really want 3gb++ for 4k as we already pushing it over. current GPUs are just not fit for 4k, unless you want pay stupid amount of money for stable 30fps or 60fps on some games.

Yeah Far Cry 3 was one of the games that pushed the vram over 3gb on the Ti's and led to framedrops to about 1fps,cant remember the other game but there was one other with similar issues and results. Not only do the AMD cards have more vram but they also have a wider memory bus (384-bit vs 512-bit)which is one of the reasons they would be more suited to 4K.

Im no saying modern gpu's are enough for 4K but i would imagine by lowering settings you could get more playable framerates. It would require a LOT of cash aswell,a prohibitive amount in my view,but tempting none the less.

I was gonna jump a few weeks ago but decided to hang on as i dont think theres the value or performance needed at 4K yet

Well, 4k is a perfect definition for ePenis right now. Costs a fortune for a very low quality of performance.

I do agree on playing with settings. Linus did a video on 4k and he did say that AA is pretty much useless thing to have on 4k. A LOT off performance can be retrieved by putting that stupid AA to its grave.

AMD is a better solution, for those who still think with their Main head, and not the little one. Though both solution are pants at the moment.

Still, lovely to see 4k Monitors at the very nice price points. I wonder what will happen to 1440p monitors. If price will be right, I might actually go 3x1440p way myself instead of 4k as it will be a lot more suited for me.

Obviously cost wise is r9 290 in crossfire. It matches any card in the market but noisy and moreso in crosfire. Do a bit of research but obvioulsy the 780 runs cooler and less noisy but your paying 300 in the difference for two cards!

One of the most important things to me is noise level. Im not to keen on 290s because of the heat and the noise. Granted I could get a 3rd party cooler but I have doubts that it will lower the noise level. I am seriously considering the R9 295X2 thou. I love the cooling option and doesnt seem that noise and I get the added effect of just having one card.

Its a tough what to decide what card to go for. Iv always been a Nvidia guy and I moving away from them has me thinking "am I doing the right thing?"

Most likely ill have to get a new PSU too. I have my doubts 750w will be sufficient in the long run

Very good read. As said in article: "not in 2014". 4K is lovely when it works, but by the looks of it there are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to many issues with that resolution right now.
Turning of AA really makes a huge difference too.

By the way, are those Samsungs on AOC 499£ monitors are 60Hz?
