Enabled V sync and so far, it's been good. Also changed settings to allow fan speed to go up higher. Staying at a nice 70 core and 75 vrm. Hasn't gone over 70% load

    Nice :)

probably because ddr4 is around the corner. I was thinking the same. The ram I have has gone up in price since I bought it too. Good thing I bought 32 gigs when I did, rather than buying 16 with the plan to expand

Supply and demand. The market was flooded a while back, now prices are back up and there is less supply and more demand.

SSDs and Hdds prices wen down nicely though. I will wait a bit more and then replace my 60gb boot one with 512gb when they drop a bit more.

If I was purchasing more RAM would buying 2 x 8gb be fine, considering I have 2 x 4gb? Or would that cause any problems?

It will probably work fine. You have to have 64-bit Windows for it to be able to use more than 4GB though.

Just put your new 2x8GB RAM sticks into slots 1-3 and leave out the smaller RAM. 16GB of RAM would be serious overkill for most tasks on any PC, never mind having 24GB. Unless you heading towards 32GB workstation territory with serious video editing & rendering ect.

Just thought I'd ask here as well, I have a 4670K that I'd be willing to swap for a non-k or lower clocked i5 with cash, as my new mitx build is using a h81 mobo. In case anyone fancies an upgrade. :P

hmm 780ti would probably be overkill for 1080 on a single monitor though :D

Where do you get those drivers? Official sites don't have them. Nvidia experience does not do update too.

Any opinions on the Kraken G10? Have an old h55 lying around back home and just got a reference 290.

If they take anywhere near as long as AMD have to get an official driver out i wouldnt hold my breath,Mantle is STILL only in beta drivers.

It takes about a month for nvidia to make them official

AMD appear to have ****ed themselves over with mantle already. I dont know why they released it so early when its a long way off being complete

Tried the new NVidia drivers with BF4 multiplayer last night. I didn't run any benches but the improvement was big enough to be obvious. Average and min FPS are both improved, by enough that I can turn on 2 x MSAA and still have better FPS than I did before the update. GPU temps went up a little, probably due to higher utilization. I'm really impressed with the improved smoothness and lack of stutter.

Running 1440p with SLI GTX 670's, all settings ultra + 2xMSAA.

First 295x2 review. It's Forbes so take it with a pinch of salt but the numbers are certainly impressive. Out performing dual 780tis (much better scaling I imagine as a single 780ti outdoes a 290x) but a decent amount at 1500 dollars. Max temps of 60 degrees too apparently. Ihope the VRMs are judr as cool.

With the water cooling and those temps some decent overclocking might be possible too.

    1500$

    1500$

Yeah pretty crazy but given the numbers it's actually worth it (if you consider a 780ti worth it anyways).

Its lunacy to pay such money for a GPU, I would not care even if it comes with 1 year free hooker subscription. Throw in 2 and I think about it. :pac:
I really really hope that next gpus not just going to go with usual ladder of price and performance hand to hand. In a few years time, we will be paying 3k eu just for flagship GPU.

On this point I agree. They have good margins on these. The real value is 400 dollar 290 chips (some of which even unlocked to 550 dollar 290x chips). 290xs are only 5% faster clock for clock.

And now we're talking two chips for 1500 dollars... so ya I agree flagship models are getting crazy expensive.

its taking advantage of people who want huge performance from an itx or m-atx pc. i nearly bought a titan because of that

I think its mad im paying £800 on 2 780's since i spent €450 on 6970's almost 3 years ago both flagship models

Quick question, if I'm installing Windows 7 onto a new SSD. Do I need to format the SSD or can I just go and install away? The SSD will be the primary drive in a new PC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Straight off install. Just remember to remove any other drives first to prevent Windows dumping boot information on the wrong drive.
