Need to lay down a concrete base for a steel shed and was wondering how to gauge the amount of concrete I will need. The area is roughly 7m in length, 4m in width and 4 inches deep. Would I be better off getting it ready mixed from Roadstone or doing it the hard way and mixing it myself (ie. would I save much)?

You need the volume as you order in cubic meters. So 7 x 4 x 0.1 equals 2.8 cubic meters needed.
Obviously allow for uneven digging etc and alittle on top as you don't want to be a wheelbarrow short.
Mixing yourself is nonsense. By the time you buy cement and aggregate, I can't see their being a saving, not to mention the labour involved.

Based on the sizes given you will need 2.8 m3. so 3 metres will be a delivery amount. The problem is that the lower the amount you order the dearer it will be per m3 so you need to factor that against the time and energy spent mixing it yourself.

It will be cheaper to mix it yourself but theres a right wee bit of work involved there not to mention the bonus of having it all poured in one go if ordering it.

If it were me I would ring around for a few prices :)

Edit/ beaten to the draw by quick gun mick :D
