Jamie Bamber (Lee Adama) in Battlestar Galactica.

This above one really surprised me, I had no idea. Was fully convinced he was a dyed in the wool American.

    Christian Bale as well.

    Hugh Jackman

    Lena Headey (after Terminator TSCC)

    Andrew Lincoln (The Walking Dead)

Lots of Walking Dead Characters are English.
    Rick
    Carol
    The Govner
The black guy who took Rick in back in Atlanta
    For starters.

    Carol (Melissa McBride) is American.

Whilst on the subject, I think Renee Zellweger deserves a mention.

Best English accent by an American actor I've heard.

Not American but anyone who has heard Tom Vaughan Lawlor (Nidge) speak off screen will realise he's definitely more West End than South-side. Couldn't believe the difference in accent when I heard him interviewed

The Aussies pull it off very well

Rose Byrne of Bridesmaids and X-Men First Class had me fooled!

Id also second the bombshell wife from Wolf of Wall Street. Used to be in Neighbours, absolute top job of a broad Brooklyn accent.

It's too stereotypical to be believable, in my opinion. It's a bit forced and has too much grandeur about it.

First place I saw Aiden Gillen was The Wire and I never thought for a second he wasn't American. Same goes for Idris Elba and Dominic West come to think of it.

Charlize Theron does a good job of coming across as a Yank. I've always been aware that she's South African but anytime I've heard her speak in interviews, at awards etc, she has an American accent. However, South Africans that I've met have told me that when she's speaking at anything at home, she reverts to her South African accent.

Arnold Schwarzenegger having watched him play so many all-american type hero I was shocked  to find out he wasn't born in America!

And becoming governor of California. Mad.

Ellen's wife Portia di Rossi. Astonishing to me that's she's Australian and lived the first 20 odd years of her life there - she hasn't a trace of an accent in interview, on film or anywhere, just your standard generic Hollywood drawl.

It makes her instantly unlikeable to me.

Diane Kruger had done such a good job that when auditioning for Inglorious Ba$tards she had a terrible job convincing Quentin Tarantino that she was a native German (he wanted German speakers). By all accounts, a passport had to be produced. Tarantino thought she was a yank.

Liam Neeson in taken. I was convinced he was a yank after that.

Gillian Anderson, Scully from X-Files. I practically had to be resuscitated when I found out she was English.

The members of the band Spinal Tap were the best English accents by Americans that I ever heard.

Joel Kinnaman from the The Killing US and Robocop. I just assumed he was American, but he's actually Swedish!

Yeah, she was excellent in Peter Jackson's (best) film, Heavenly Creatures.

When I saw L.A. Confidential, I had no difficulty telling that Russell Crowe was from Dunnunda, but Guy Pearce was another matter entirely. Born in England, grew up in Australia, appeared in Home and Away and Neighbours before making it big in Hollywood. Just to complicate matters, he played King Edward VIII (the one who abdicated) in The King's Speech.
