Yeah its probably scary that after you first try it, you dont tihnk its a big deal anymore.... so you try it a few weeks later, etc etc. I assume thats how it goes down.

    Ok.

I would have sex with Charlize Theron to try heroin. Honestly can't see any downsides to that.

Why do you make having sex with Charlize Theron sound like a bad thing?

If I got the news I was terminally ill with something extremely painful id try it. I'd spend my last few days hanging around o Connell street centra or goofing off down the back of the 27 bus. Actually come to think of it the pain relief the hospital would give me would probably be opium based anyway so no need....

You could not pay me any amount of money to try it.

thats why opiates are used in medicine as a sedative and pain reliever, they are found as natural products in the opium poppy, same as heroin.

most addicts I've met want to get clean - getting clean is nearly the easy bit - the hard bit is staying clean - something like 95% relapse - so if its the first , second or 100th hit that gets you addicted why risk become a slave to a drug that will ultimately take everything, including your humanity & probably your life & all your dignity, as we see on our streets so regularly today

Ok AH, they say everyone has has their price, and I want to you know what's yours? How much cash would it take for you to take what would be considered a decent amount?

I know we were educated that it's one hit and you're addicted, but that's bull in fairness.

I think E20,000 seems about right for me.

Abou 2 euro like....ye know for the bus fare

If I ever make it to 90 years of age I'm taking it up, on my 90th birthday. Its gotta be an absolutely brilliant buzz if people ruin their lives to such an extent to keep doing it. From a physical harm point of view it is an extremely retarded drug to take, at age 90 I figure I wont have much to loose...

Honestly I would say around 5 grand.

I know that sounds very low and I am typing this with a fag in my hand but taking into count I am no expert on addiction and I haven;t tried that many drugs really but everything I have kept doing is because I am around people that its acceptable to.
I just don't think one huge dopamine rush would do it in terms of long term addiction even though i can understand how with multiple use it could completely fcuk you.
I am putting this in the proviso that your in a good mental state and have a healthy outlook on life I would presume heroin is self-selective to an extent these days since there is such a huge taboo around it even among the 'drug taking classes'

No way would I inject that stuff into me.

Crystal Meth seems to be worse though, saw an article on how it affected people, made their skin all pock marked and rotted their teeth.

Smoked it three times in the early 70s (was taking a load of other stuff then as well). Acid and Mandies were my choice. Never felt mentally compelled to keep trying it. Now I just have the occasional spliff. I guess you could call it old age maturing :D

A better question is, how much would it take for you to try krokodil? Mother of God that stuff is horrific.

I remember as a kid hearing a lot about Larry Dunne on the news, he made a lot of money from selling heroin.

Zero - I don't smoke, so the likelihood of me trying out other forms of drugs is nil.

I feel better knowing the experts at Boards seem to know all about addictive drugs and how easy they are to get over.

The article posted mentions the risks associated with alcohol and benzo/barbiturate detox. , the risk with a benzo detox is often the benzo fits caused during detox , its detox is a tapered detox under supervision .
An alcohol detox involves a medical supervsion to avoid the body going into shock and shutting down using librium involving stabilisation , reduction and stopping.Death from an unsupervised alcohol detox or benzo detox is well known and documented.

I don't know a death during withdrawals from heroin though I've worked in drug services and homeless services the last couple of years. Some of the services I've worked in provide residential treatment for detox as well as stabilisation and drug free supports and aftercarel alongside drugs services and interagency services including medical , councelling , housing amongst others.
You might tell me about the risk of death from heroin withdrawals not complications.
