i have my new licence for a while now, The photo is the big issue, as you can view, it have some circle lines around the face area, as well as some staggered lines behind the harp area,

i have not got any other licences to compare with, so i don't no if this is normal or not, as far as i can tell from looking at the driving licence website, the new licence does not have this new features on the photo area,

i would like some opinions, about this issue, or some advice un what to do,

Can't see the issue tbh, your face is clearly visible for comparison?

is it normal for circles around the face, or is it just me.

    Mine is the same yours.

Why do you need to see your photo:confused: Just look in the mirror to see yourself.

It's a security thing as far as I can see - so that no one can transpose another photo over it I guess.

Only serious input please, has anyone else got these circles lines, features, on there licence,

I've a UK license and it's got horizontal instead of the circular ones, as well as the wavy lines, it's a a security measure.

Just looked at mine and I have a big white circle around my head! I never noticed it before now. Is that what you're talking about?

FWIW, I just got a new license also, and it has those wavy lines and blurry bits in the exact same location as yours. So I think it's normal.

Can't seem to open the image. Boards says the file contains errors.

But op, I got my provisional license two weeks ago. I am actually hungover in my picture! :pac: But it looks like me and thats all that matters.

Interestingly enough if you shine a UV torch over these new licenses you see a hidden Harp and 'eire ireland' over the top of your head.

Better than what was before. A licence the size of a broadsheet newspaper that disintegrated and was easily duplicated .

The expiry dates can be different for the categories on the back.

The licence would need to be renewed after 5 years so having a 10 year expiry doesn't make sense

If you hold the licence to the light in such a way that it acts like a mirror you'll see that the surface is etched with a whole series of squiggles. Different pattern over the photo.
My photo is atrocious. Came out almost black. You can't really see my whole face. Got it last September before new centres opened. Used it recently as proof of identity for gun licence renewal. Garda said it could be a photo of a Nigerian immigrant it looked so dark! Showed him the original photo for comparison. Couldn't believe it came out so bad.

Thats the way they do it, when you have lorrys/buses, replace licence in 2018, then again in 2023 every five years, 2028,...... medical cert every five years aswell,

i would like to see another licence with these circles lines, on it, before i go back to the ndls center to complain,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

Relax would you. There's nothing wrong with your license, they all have those lines and circles on the photo. Go in and complain of you want but they'll probably think you are taking the piss and wasting their time.

Every new style licence has them.
I recently got driving permit and have same lines.

Also most other licences issued in EU, have some kind of security lines similar to those you have on the picture.
Absolutely normal thing and nothing to worry about.

My licence is the same: C1 and C1E expire in 2018, but everything else is 2023.

If I don't drive a C1 or C1E between 2018 and 2023, I don't know whether I lose those categories or if they need to be renewed within the 5 years to retain them.

Also note when paying for a licence, the only options are for 3 year and 10 years. You have to pay for 10 years even though some of it is only valid for 5.
