Stainless steel water purifier cup (travel mug) and airport security?

For an upcoming trip to Asia I have invested in a water purifier cup. It looks like a stainless steel travel mug but it has a purifying filter.

It's a pretty expensive piece of kit so I want to keep it close. So I was wondering about keeping it in the hand luggage. It's technically a water container as such, so will it pass through airport security?

Anyone any experience with traveling with these cups or with travel mugs?

it's one of these for the record

I've taken an empty travel mug through security in Dublin and Frankfurt in the past with no issues. It must show up on the scanner as it's stainless steel, but I haven't been asked to open my bag.

I guess at the end of the day they're more interested in liquids rather than containers.
