Early access / alpha seems to be a thing now... selling a broken game early. I don't mind as long as price is right, starting low and going up as game develops...

Hoping they get the go a head for the new super fab, that'll mean lots of work for me for a few years!

    Early Access should be stopped.

Only good games from it were ARMA 3 and State Of Decay which were already tried and tested.

Early access is definitely buyer beware,a lot of bad stories starting to crop up now.

Ive faired ok with early access up until Cube World, any body remember that one? Still though one of five aint too bad

Only other games ive bought early access were Minecraft,Arma 3,DayZ and Rust.

DayZ probably the weakest of that bunch imo, early days for it yet though. Lot of development still to do on that game.
The mod is in fantastic shape though,so can just play epoch or overwatch etc till the standalone is ready.

Rust i havent played yet really but it seems very popular and well recieved. Most commentators i listen to have held it up as the example of how early access should be so ill assume its good,or at least functional at this stage

I like early access, but I fell that some games starting to take a piss with this.

    I got so far:

DayZ - handled great so far.

Rust - I pumped in to this 200h already and this game is one of those games that benefits the least of additional content added. If you come in and say " I am bored as there is no end game content ", then you needed to get a slap and get the **** out of here, before you get slaped again with a rock.
Again, updates were regular enough for this, but the last month was a bit slow. I do understand why, as they redoing the whole internals o the game to make adding stuff easier.

Asseto Corsa - you get a lot for early access game in this one, thats again true if you are a sim racer and not a Forza/GT racer. They add some big tasty patches all the time too. So all good.

Prison architect - I think its the best example so far of this system. Devs are very honest and do nice updates all the time. Fair play.

Right, its a good system so far, but then you get stuff like Planatery anihilation, which was 70eu for early access... I know it has to do with Kick starter, but still. Its stupid. I havent heard much about anymore considering how big it was. Then I sow Galactic Civilisation early access.... I watched the video and it was like "diplomacy is not working yet"... In such game? The list goes really long how much is not in the game yet. I would not even touch this game in that state.

Safest way to see how good Early Access game is - wait for first 2 updates and see how much they add and how regular those are.

PICMG 1.3 Half-Size Single Board Computer

This would be really handy if it could run while main PC is plugged in, but turned off... like a tiny home server
I could also imagine streamers using this instead of external streaming cards

New keyboard just arrived. It's going to take a bit of getting used to.

I don't know if it's the new updates or what but Arma 3 is really struggling with 1400p on a 670. Everything on the low preset gets 60FPS.

    Second card or proper upgrade?

That doesn't sound right. 670 should be able to handle much better than that, even at 1440p. What is your object and view distance? It could be your CPU lowering FPS, at least that's true for me.

Either way, this is a good topic, as I will be in same boat pretty soon when I get my 1440p. Guess i'll go for second 670 if I can get one around 200 EUR later on.

I'm pretty sure the last NVidia update screwed my FPS. Could be a cheap ploy for their upcoming DX overhead Mantle counter patch thing.

I've been told that my birthday is coming up and I'm to pick a new GPU for > €300. :D
I can use it for work so can skip tax.
    So, 280x / 770?

Dunno, Arma 3 runs like ass on my 680 overclock too. Funny thing is my GPU is not even being maxed out while playing it, so bottleneck is CPU 2500k at 4.2ghz

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,203 ✭✭✭Squaredude

Getting about 40 fps on ultra with my 780 overclocked.

Just saw this. I dunno how decent AOC are but at the very least it might drive down prices for 1440p monitors.

It's worth paying the ~€50 more and getting from these guys than ebay anyway. maybe it'll drive the price down though!

What would be the minimum spec GPU to run the 4K screen at decent FPS?
    Let's say something like BF4 at 60FPS?

How can I make borderlands and Bioshock run without disc? I've tried making a .iso and using DT, but still asks for 'original disc'

This is for BF3 which is a bit less demanding. Looks like you'd need 290 CF or 780 sli and above to have any 60fps though 280x crossfire might be alright if mantle can soften the burden.

Silverstone have announced a new SFX PSU:

    600W
    80 Plus Gold
    Semi-fanless
    Short cables as standard

Me-thinks there might be an FT03 Mini build in my future, just 'cause...

Just wow at those 4k prices. I expected lower prices, but this just blows my mind. As much as I would like one, there is no way I can afford the horse power to run one of these.

Use a VPN and try again. If you still can't access, trying change the DNS to Public Access (Tier-2) DNS Servers

Have you tried typing the serial number off the CDs into Steam by going to the Add Game (bottom left of window) ---> Activate a Product on Steam?

It worked for me on about hald the old games I tried it with. You can just download and play the game through Steam then.

Borderlands doesn't use a cd key.
