Very few will pay 7500e imported inc shipping for an overgrown Passat though. Also a v10 5l diesel is a bit of a contradiction in terms. Still I wouldn't mind a shot of it. A friend drove a v10 tdi Touareg and loved it.

While I agree about its prospects. Badge aside, It's as much a Passat, as an LS is an Overgrown avensis.

You've got to drive one. Honestly, they are very special. They are incredibly well built, and finished.

Matt Simis on here had one, and I test drove it with the intention of buying (couldn't shift my own car in time though). It was remapped to 380+ and the torque was absolutely mindblowing. V10 makes a nice noise too for a diesel.

My only fault with the car was overly assisted steering, and somewhat spongy brakes.

MPG isn't too bad either. 18-20 city, and 28'ish on motorway.

Went to buy this car last week

Seller wasn't honest about the car so I didn't proceed with buying.

    On the phone I asked:

On the scale 1-10, 10 being brand new car in showroom what's the condition of bodywork and paint.
    His answer was 8.5
Well, I read on pistonheads that there might be problem with paint due to alloy body not working well with its paint.
So on this car pretty much every panel had laquer peel plus scratches on bottom of doors, cracked shiny bits of trim on bumpers etc etc
Seller first thing opened the boot so I paid special attention to it and guess what, the edge at the window all corroded (as in old alloy wheels)
Small crash damage around front light, would have to be looked at (bodyshop/paint)

In essence, if you buy a car like that you'd want it to be presentable and this one was starting to look shabby. OK from 4 meters but not up close.

On the phone seller said 160k, 178k miles in fact
Seats showing signs of wear in line with mileage so I'd say it's genuine 178k if you care. He said "rear seats never been sat in" well questionable I'd say because they had brown hue (baby shyte/chocolate?) and presence of playstation wiring and dvd screen (very small, useless really) kinda show that there were kids involved.
Wood on the steering wheel and gear knob didn't match the dashboard (darker on the dash) but quite a few early ones 2003-2005 models have this "feature"
Small hole on passenger door card, bit of an eyesore thats all
Tyres need replacing and not the same, not a good sign
Car fresheners in the boot so probably damp there

I was driven in it and mechanically it was ok as far as I could tell, no funny noises, gearbox ok etc but I wasn't at the wheel myself so no idea about vibrations from steering/brakes. Power/performance ok but not staggering. It's a massive car and it takes a lot space to turn it around.

In the end I hooked my autocom cdp+ interface but it didn't have much diagnostics on this model (usually it runs through all car's systems such as abs, aircon, lights etc etc, there was no OBDII (engine) related errors.

In the end the diagnostics was a deal breaker. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't run through all systems. If I could tell that apart from bodywork everything else is fine then yeah, why not. It looks the part, drives like tank and has that sense of occasion when you're in it. In this particular case I walked away. Seller lied and there could be other issues that I couldn't see so it was too much risk for me. I told him that I want to view one more car (which was true).

Afterwards, the owner was piss_d off that I didn't take it (he thought that I'll say "yeah, lovely") and changed the price on ad plus put some smart comment on it about computer geeks coming to view the car :pac: and to make sure his car is the last one you view.

So I offered him 2250 cash by text for it and told him that's what revenue vrt calculator thinks its worth. He texted back saying for 2500 its yours. Just goes to show his add saying no texts and talk of nonsense of test pilots and computer heads means **** all when logic and cold hard cash is involved. Id safely say I could buy that in a week or two for 2250 if I wanted. (Not going to though as Ive no interest in driving something with big miles, Id rather pay more for a good one)

Hello, just to say as someone who likes good motors, I find this forum very informative, in fact I went to the north and bought the Jaguar first posted by Sobanek, Thanks to him. This is a really nice car, well worth the 4000 I paid. It has some corrosion which I have arranged to be done but overall a car that has been cared for. Here is the thing, I am presently driving a VW Phaeton and Lexus Ls 430, and had never driven a Jagua,r a completely different kind of drive, this one so impressed me I wanted a even better one, a V8 so I went online and bought a British Racing Green Sovereign, with 74.000 miles so now the blue one is on offer for what it cost me, I offer it here first, as I know its a good one. I will be keeping the Lexus and Phaeton so no offers thanks Bill

Also + means something like addition, like adding stuff together and ****. Just something I read, but I'm not a mathematician or programmer so it could be wrong.

Its a coding/math construct, Just clarifying as I've seen it's been misunderstood

I'm not a fan of that model, but if I had to buy one, that'd be it. Lovely colour, fab wheels and it looks in great nick. Well wear.

I have always liked the look of a Jaguar, but never drove one until I got the blue one, amazing, it must be the most engaging car I have ever driven, I knew straight away when I seen it. I was going to buy, but it was not until I actually drove it that I fell in love.Bill

Love those Jags. Black and LWB would be the one for me. Love the wheels. Petrol I presume?

Off course petrol, diesel is for taxis, guys who do mega miles and people who know no better.

However my Phaeton a 3.0 diesel,is a great car, I would love to change it for a V8 petrol model or even a W12, now, that would be some car.

A Phaeton and an XJ, a man after my own heart!

That XJ is stunning! Well wear and welcome to boards :)

I hope you have a big smile on your face everytime you pass a 141 plated Hyundai knowing it's more expensive to own than your high end flagship :D

I have a Lexus Ls 430 as well, now that is a luxobarge, I got annoyed when my son paid a lot of money for a poverty spec E 250 and said I could have 5 of the best saloon cars in the world for less. Just need the S class and 7 series but no rush I have until October

    There wasn't a manual Phaeton.

I see. A decent auto box on a diesel can be quite nice to drive. I heard the Phaetons are just bloated Passats but I'd say they'd have to be a bit more luxurious?
