There doesn't seem to be any budget restrictions yet. I might hold off on playing this until it's fully implemented.

Looks promising all the same and it's good to see some movement on this since it's been a while since the last major update.

Just achieved my first major goal in KSP, landing on the Mun!

It wasn't exactly textbook, far from it infact, but the Kerbals survived, problem is their stuck!

Bob to the rescue! Must send him on a recovery mission to get Bill and Jeb who are at this moment in time stranded!

    The joys of KSP!

A couple more runs at it and you'll be doing the moon with your eyes closed.
It shouldn't be too difficult to rescue them.
    Don't forget too quicksave.

New update is out for this as of October (update 0.22). Career mode is now included in the game.

    Cant stop playin it!

    Yeah, it's good old craic
I decided I needed to collect atmospheric samples from the sun and it is a lot harder to shoot something directly into the sun than you would think it should be, especially when you're restricted on what parts you can use.

I keep trying to return a soil sample from the Mun on my second launch.

It's possible but it'll take some doing with non-vectoring engines, no control surfaces, no dedicated SAS, no passive power generation and no fuel lines.

It's bordering on masochism at this stage but I'm gonna do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 100 ✭✭Foley48

I managed to get to the mun, take the soil sample and get back again but i had no electrocharge or fuel left when i splashed down on Kerbin haha. I'm only using standard parts and unlocks (cant get my head around the mods atm and dont want to as I can imagine it takes from the challenge?)

I must try getting to the sun and do a flyby but given the unlocks I have atm I'm not sure if it'll be possible. Ive jsut unlocked the first solar panel tho so electronic charger shouldnt be an issue this time

    67 on the first launch.

Anyone care to raise the bar?

    Awesome!

I managed to land on Minimus last night (just about). No fuel to get the guy back though hahaha

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 890 ✭✭✭CrinkElite

That's a pity. It must have been very tight as you should only need a tiny amount of fuel to escape Minmus (Escape Velocity 242.61 m/s)

You could even do that with the Jet pack if I'm not mistaken.
Of course Kerbin re-entry would kill the pilot without the protection of a command pod.
Maybe you could rendezvous with him as he nears the planet.

Which of course would be the awesomest rescue mission in the history of space exploration. :)

    Give it a go!

the latest update is out now
version .23 has updates to the career mode and optimisations to the code which should make bigger rockets more feasable

They've also confirmed that there will be a multiplayer in the final version which could be freakin awesome

I was having a think about this and I think it may be a zero sum gain.
Wouldn't the kerbal have to match the rescue vehicle's orbit to avoid splatting into it? Or maybe not??
Of course you could always aerobrake through the higher atmosphere a couple of times which would save on fuel but I think that would be a mammoth task in terms of trial and error.

    Ahhh.... brain strain!!!

I was wondering where the Boardsie discussion on KSP was, and now I've found it :D

I picked the game up in the Steam Sale a couple of weeks ago and it's already become a quick favourite. Have started another career mode and I'm aiming for a steady orbit atm. I can never seem to time the "move from vertical to angled ascent" bit right to get into steady orbit.

Next step will of course be Mun, but I've a ways to go yet before I'm happy with the basics I think.

Start your turn at 10km and turn slowly east. If you're aiming for a 75km orbit then don't point at the horizon until your apoapsis is at least 45km (working from memory here, the most efficient curve may be different). Once your apoapsis is at 75km then cut your throttle and wait until you get to 75km before burning prograde again.

Yea, that worked out rather well, I think I was pointing at the horizon far too soon (Apoapsis at only around 25km). Time for some Sciencey Gooey stuff and then it's time to think about the Mún!

Don't forget that you can earn some science points on Kerbin itself. Make an ICBM and put Jeb down in a couple of different places (ice cap, desert, etc). Get an EVA report and a surface sample, hop back in the capsule and mash "recover vessel". It doesn't earn you much but it'll get you closer to researching some useful parts.

oh yea, he's been fierce busy landing around the planet and sciencing it up :)

The new NASA misssion was launched a week or two ago.
Has anyone captured or re-directed an astroid yet?

Haven't played this game since GTA V was released :o

Gonna have to set some time aside to get back into it.

It hasn't been released to the public yet. Only a select few like Scott Manley have it and Squad are still bug-testing.

Can't wait to get it, there's so many uses for the grappling arm! am i right in thinking it'll only be available in sandbox mode though?

I was wondering about that myself but I only play in sandbox mode these days. If it is locked in career mode, it's easy enough to make it available with a cfg file edit.

    ARM is out now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,339 ✭✭✭The One Doctor

My installation (0.23, bought on the KSP site) isn't giving me the option to update to 0.23.5. I've turned the 'Check for updates on start' of and on again but nothing has changed. Any ideas?

I bought mine through steam and it updates fine

Perhaps if you activate the product on steam, it might update that way?

I'm a big fan of the new massive engines
Bigger is of course, always better

I didn't have time at the weekend to actually capture an astroid but I'm looking forward to giving it a go (next time 'one born every minute' is on)

Use the 'Patcher' application in your KSP directory to update.

Thanks, never knew the patcher existed! Currently fiddling around with spaceplanes as they're fun to get into orbit. I rapidly run out of ideas to do once in orbit - I always need to be going somewhere. The COntracts feature should be interesting in 0.24.

    Edit: Worked perfectly, thanks.
