Opinions on wood shavings for bedding?

    Ran low on straw, got a large bag of wood shavings. Seems to be a fair bit in a bag but they're €9 each, small straw squares €2.80, neither cheap IMO.

    Ran out last year and local fella does the shavings here, think its 6 quid a bag though so not bad value. I found it good but a pain to lamb on as gets stuck everywhere, did use it this year under the straw though...

    Used wood shavings for the last couple of years here but back to straw now. Find they stay drier on the straw and at least you can throw the straw in the dung heap and spread it later on. Woodshavings take a lot of nitrogen to break them down and this in turn stunts growth badly where ever they are spread.
    The Vet also said that lambs were more inclined to get joint ill when bedded with wood shavings.

    Balls to that then, I figured they wouldn't be near as good as straw when spread. Imagine they'd be slightly acidic too? Don't need the hassle of joint ill neither.
