 I can't believe Renault made a 3.5ltr hatchback, I can just imagine Bill Cullen selling them now :D

The same engine was in the Espace too. I've driven a Laguna II with the 3.0 V6 and its a cracker.

More V5 :). A bit dearer at 1200 but without the bangs on the backs and lower mileage. Not sure if it's 150 or 170 hp version.

    Meeeental money that 5!

    Very cool though.

Theres a Daihatsu Applause next to it - that was a model Daihatsu sold from late 89 to late 93/early 94.

They didn't sell many of them - but the interesting thing about it - is that although it looks like a Saloon in the pics - its actually a hatchback - whole rear glass and bootlid are all the one component.

Bit boring aside from that - but thinking about it now - if the owner was selling at the right money - id consider buying it for something different.

Mind you I do like boring old Jap cars.

Have spent the last 7 or 8 years trying to resist the temptation to buy a Nissan Bluebird :D

He is selling that applause for €400 euros but I believe it has some issues.

And While the applause isn't exciting, it is a rare sight and was even when new. They are also a hatchback while being made to look like a saloon and they pull it off excellently imo.

Will give it a miss - have very little patience with issues.

Having a car that's driving fine in my ownership - and then has issues - that's fine - get them sorted if it suits etc.

But buying a car with issues - not happening :(.

Anyway - while the Applause is interesting - my proper logical thinking has kicked in since typing the post you quoted.

Better cars out there to be got I think - and ive a Fiat Panda itch that still looking for me to scratch it :)

Your quite right though - they did do a good job of making the hatch look like a Saloon.

1.6, thought they would have been 1.0/1.3 engines from the Charade.

I'm pretty sure they came with reclining rear seats too.

Surely you could get this for 2000. I like the description in the ad, sounds honest and like he's an enthusiast or at least knows exactly what he has. Just done an NCT even though it's not very long and the timing belt has been done apparently.

Love that R5. They were common enough until about 10 years ago, you rarely see them now. I reckon a bit over a grand would buy it - a bargain considering you're guaranteed to sell it in a few years time for at least what you pay for it now.

Drove a '79 R5 around France for 3 weeks back in the late 80s. With 4 adults, 2 tents and all the gear we needed to camp, cook, etc. To say it was overloaded is a bit of an understatement :D

Didn't let us down either apart from the time I forgot to put back the tank cap after filling with petrol. Got a replacement cap from a local garage, but it wasn't original and it caused a vacuum in the tank. The fuel gauge didn't show anything irregular and was showing half full when the car broke down. We feared the worst, but it turned out we had run out of petrol from the now very small vacuum imploded petrol tank :D

They're very comfortable little cars for what they are, my 92 5 was a lovely little yoke, I'd love to have it back.

You could buy a K11 Micra for the same money, and you'd have a few more luxuries, but come to think of it, if I were in the market, I'd probably consider it over a K11. As above, you should make your money back on it in years to come.

Nice added bonus that the belt and a service has just been done. Might take a look at it during the week. My GP is being sold on Tuesday :(

Edit - Sorry it doesn't state it on the ad, but I was texting him, that's how I know about the belt and service.

IMO that's overpriced. I wouldn't be paying anywhere near €1500 for it tbh.

Oh god no. Take 20% off that.. Great low milage, service and belt done, bit of tax and nct. Could get money back on it in a few months by putting it through NCT, or give it to my brother who's starting to drive. Mechanic owned and 2 owners too with FSH. Obviously going to look around anyway!

Beautiful Colt, apart from the colour it's exactly like mine. According to Mitsubishi the timing belt should be done every 54k miles so given that there's 56k miles on it, seems like the owner is taking good care of it.

Offtopic: Nice to see that I'm not the only one who can't sleep. :P

Yup ride quality was a stand out feature of the R5.

the Mk 2s looked nice enough too imo - especially in black - knew a couple of people back in the day who had black Renault 5s - black suited them :)

3 doors looked nicer then the 5 doors - to me the 5 doors always looked like Renault designed the cars originally as a 3 door - and though oh crap - we had better think about putting in the 2 extra doors :D

No mention of mileage but if it's not astronomical:

    NCT'd until Feb 2015
    Taxed until January 2015
    2 Keys
If he can show receipts for the work done then it's an absolute bargain

Would this be worth the cash?

    Nct Until November
    Tax until June
FSH up tp 122k miles, 130k on it now.

Saw it when I was up home last week, seems to be in great nick from the outside anyways.

Must be a prank at that price, or something wrong with it. Throw some gsi slabs and a kit and some redneck would pay big for it.

I would never buy a Renault. They have a very bad name for awful electrics but it is deserved. I know three people who have/had Renaults (Megane x 2 Luguna x 1) who've had a huge amount of trouble.

Which is why the newer Renaults are such good value. The Laguna from 2008 onwards is a hugely improved car over the Laguna 2, but because the reputation is there their resale value is in the toilet. Bargain time! The same for the Megane. The new one is a great little car without the electrical gremlins of the one linked above.

But that's probably for another thread.

That may have been true in the past but since 2009 ish they have been very good, from what I've seen, more reliable than new Skoda's, VW's and BMW's in our park.

Yup definitely looks too cheap - but I can kind of see why someone not big into their cars could possibly price it at too cheap a price as a genuine sale.

Thing is - its a 1994 car - so for a seller - they assume that it will be valued purely as a 1994 car.

If it was a genuine car - with nothing wrong with it - id be looking to ask 600/700 euro for it - as a very cheap diesel car - if I was selling it.

Any SENSIBLE buyer wanting a cheap diesel car - would be better off with a 1994 car in good condition then a "cheap" 2001 diesel that's wrecked.

The comment about he buying from the original owner is a bit odd - but IF the add was genuine - it is of course possible that buying from the original owner - meant actually buying it from original owner at 5 years old.

Mind you - it would have sounded way better to actually say - ive owned car for 15 years

Its weird though - id be very iffy that theres something wrong with the car - because to my mind - if its in good condition - its actually not worth selling it for what his asking.

    Too cheap :( I think
