Is it safe to use on your car? My fear being it'd be 'dirty' water and you'd be rubbing all sorts of crap all over your car and swirling the life out of it?

Harvested rainwater would definitely need to be filtered for car washing purposes - the water is coming off your roof so there will always be a certain amount of sediment from concrete roof tiles, gutters etc..
It's not a big drama to filter it and there are different ways to do it.

There's lots of info on it here.

For anyone looking for the water butts & miss out on them in Aldi, they are the same price in Topline Hardware branches or you can get them in Woodies but they are a tenner dearer.

€12 for that really is great value

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,776 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

I know this is in the detailing bargains already but the discount is so good it deserved a thread of its own. Halfords have reduced their Bodywork Collection by Autoglym from €32 to €12 for this weekend only. Better again is that you can combine it with their 3 for the price of 2 offer on car cleaning products. So for €24 you can get 3 packs which consists of almost a litre of each of the following

    Autoglym Shampoo
    Autoglym Super Resin Polish
    Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection

€12 for one pack of 325ml bottles of each of those is a bargain, €24 for almost a litre of each is an even bigger bargain. Fill yer boots lads.

Whats the polish like? Is it much cop, really (is it aggressive)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 635 ✭✭✭BillJ

The polish can give some nice results and matched with the egp it's even better, anyone thinking of getting into detailing this would be a great starting point

Couple it with two buckets, a wash mitt and you'd be flying!

Not suited to machine polishing! ;)

    Really? :(

The write-up here doesn't say anything negative about it's use with DA's.

(I'm thinking that after I do the car 'properly' with Meguiars Ultimate Cut Compound, then these could be a good little touch up for every 2-3 months thereafter?

3 packs for €24 is fairly tempting, to be honest..

(ie; i hope to actually do correction with the stuff i have, but use this for a nice shine for future cleans)

Do you just print it off and bring it in? Presumably one-use only (per customer/transaction?)

Here's another version of the same voucher (online)

Can't imagine why not? It is a "produce at till" voucher. (though admittedly, it'd be handier to have a code you could enter on their site). If they say it can't work on reserved orders, then just tell them you want to cancel your reservation and buy the same product off the shelf?

Except you won't have to go around the store, cos all the products you want happen to be in front of you at the till. Now that's convenient! :p

Also, if anyone questions it (fella at the till, or such) you can say you're a member of MAG - Irish Motorcyclists Action Group).

I got that from this thread on Biker.ie (came up in a Google).

EDIT: Another version of the voucher: http://www.financialgroupservices.com/vouchers/halfords_voucher_iwoman.php?website=iWoman

I'm sure the staff must be used to seeing them, and probably won't bat an eyelid.

Also, the 3 for 2 is on all cleaning gear, except electrical items. Considering buying some other stuff myself. Anyone any recommendations?

Gonna pick up another Meguiar's Interior Detailier as the one I have is nearing empty (or not.. I think Im just making excuses to buy more) but it's a fantastic product. Really highly recommend it.

I reserved one in the Limerick store on Friday night before realising that you could get 3 for 2 so then reserved 3 (couldn't see how to edit the existing reservation).

I won't be using it so you can if they are sold out. Reservation number 8606076513

I reserved 3 of the Perfect Bodywork kits online.. but then thought "feck it", so I reserved another 3 (so 6 in total).

I got a phone call off Halfords this morning. Was dreading the "we don't have any in stock" call, but they actually just wanted to verify if I meant to order twice or was it a mistake and did I only really want the 3. I told them i wanted the 6.

    462332CCCBAA45498A790C45C4FDC0CB-0000333410-0003525941-00800L-E9F70AE1996249B78CB5FDADA4B0147B.jpg

While I was there I also picked up some other bits that looked like I might like them. AutoGlym Leather Cleaner and Care Balm took my interest (as I wasn't entirely pleased with the Meguiar's Leather Cleaner and Conditioner I bought a while back, so I figured two separate products might work better), and I seen the Meguiar's Quik Detailer too, and I thought why not (I always google the products while I'm in the store, and read amazon reviews before actually buying).

Whilst looking at the shelves, I began to worry my reservation wouldn't be there. All the bodywork kits were gone. Just an empty space where they once were (all the other Autoglym stuff was in stock, from what I could see).

When I got to the till, I asked about my reservation and the lad went off and got the six of them from the stock room. So I was delighted with myself. But because I reserved them separately (ie; two reservations of 3, instead of a single reservation of 6), he said he had to scan them through as separate purchases. I didn't care.

After he scanned the first 3, he went to scan the second 3 and also the other products I bought. This is when I pounced in with the above 10% discount voucher.

He looked a bit puzzled, and I began to doubt it'd work. I started mentioning my 'friend' who's in the motorbike group, but he didn't care. He was actually just unsure how to put the voucher into the till system. Another chap showed him and it was done and dusted. I asked him about using the same voucher again (well, another print of it, as he kept that one) and he said "there's no expiry on it, so yeah, it's fine".

I left with a big grin on my face. I think I'll be saving that voucher to my PC!

One of my friends got one of my Bodywork kits, but that still leaves me with 5, and the quik detailer and leather gear should keep me occupied for a little while.

I plan to machine polish the car with polish I already have (a more aggressive one; Meguiar's Ultimate Cut Compound) and then I'll use the Autoglym stuff for a 'touch up' hand polishing from then onwards, every 2-3 months.

Seems to be the way to go, all things considered. Either way, I'm a happy camper. Hat's off to whoever put up the offer in the first place (MAJJ?). :)

Still on offer on Monday. Just try to get an online reservation if possible, or even ring the store and ask.

    Yeah, I'm happy.

Though, checking the receipt there a second ago, it would appear my 10% discount only came off the stuff that I actually bought in the shop at the time.

They didn't take 10% off the Bodycare Kit that I reserved online. Bit odd. Though i'd rather reserve and not get the 10%, than take the risk hoping to find it in-store (when it's so popular).

Any reason why you didn't get some? Seems a steal. If I were among the first to notice it I think I'd be making sure i had whatever I wanted reserved before opening my mouth online... :o

    Got my 3 sets today.

Would there be any point to applying the Extra Gloss Protection each time you wash the car?

I apply my current cheap wax to the car each time I wash it and kinda enjoy it!

I don't see the harm in it. Personally, I plan to only use the EGP when Im using the SRP. But that's just cos my OCD wants all the bottles to start to empty around the same time.. :P (and I've a rake of other waxes there that I can use in the interim).
