The village in which he filmed this is looking to start a 'Bowie Tour'

I'd go, if I was anywhere near

    http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-26577308
There are tentative plans, she says, to partner with a tour company located 150 miles south, to offer Bowie tours of the pub and the nearby Warrumbungle National Park, where some scenes of Let's Dance (and part of its follow-up, China Girl) were shot.

    I quite like Hallo Spaceboy.

Pet shop boys and Bowie, sure you can't go far wrong!

This TOTP audience are probably waiting for Babylon Zoo to appear.

    Shame on them!

This Lou Reed documentary has been on before - still good though.

Only Thurston Moore can say 'Metal Machine Music' is a good album, whilst the rest of the world disagrees!

The Warhol Crowd...just like the LLS/SNS boardsie regulars!

Transformer was on sale in HMV for IR£4.99 for ages. Ian Dempsey used to plug it regularly, it was like a running joke.

It was almost a shame to see a classic album so cheap.

Evening chaps. What's the Lou Reed show like?

Yet another one i don't know much about.

    Hey, Donie.

The Bowie compilation earlier was sublime, IMO.

Decent programme about Lou Reed. To be honest, he's one of the musicians I admired rather than loved, if you follow me.

    Sorry i missed Bowie.

Bowie night I struggle with, Bowie compilation I welcome with open arms.

    When's D-I-S-C-O?

Missed everything tonight. Was SNS any good?

And you met Chris Hetfield? Jeaysus. Coolest man in the world and beyond.

Em...have they played Walk on the Wild Side yet?

Cool as f**k in real life. He just has an aura about him. He's the kind of person who could give a speech to kids and inspire them for life. It was a privilege to meet him briefly.

The SNS was a bit weak, to be honest.

Not like you to swear Skid! Must've made an impression. He seems like a super charismatic fella.

Don't let life push you into being the adult you don't want to be. That cartoon posted in the LLS thread a while ago actually has inspired me, particularly in work.

Anyway, Lou Reed ain't the most fun ever. C'mon TOTP!

    At 30 - The Jam
    At 29 - The Buzzcocks
    At 28 - Dire Straits

At that point I closed my eyes because I knew I would get annoyed at what was above those bands in the charts.

It was great seeing the schoolkids queue up to see him. I'm cynical enough but I thought "he's made a big impression here - some of those kids will remember this and might go on to do great things" Top bloke, I hope he comes back here soon. It was great move to get him appointed as an Irish Ambassador/

Random TOTP fact from Twitter ...

Top Of The Pops Fax ‏@TOTP1979 Mar 20
Three members of TOTO also played on Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” LP. (Guitarist Steve Lukather is on “Beat It”, for example) #TOTP

Steve "Luke" Lukather seems to be held in very high esteem among guitar players.

    Beat It, eh?

Yeah, he stole the show there...

Read an article a while ago about Eddie Van Halen. He was asked how he managed to handle recording an album, touring and playing on Beat It etc. His reply was "well, the Beat It thing took about 30 mins, so it wasn't that hard!"

    Woo! The Lizzy!

    Ah, Lizzy.

Here's Phil a few years later on the LLS

    Worth a watch

Wow, I think I'd go mad if I had that talent.

30 minutes to write a timeless hook like that. I can hardly get the computer started properly in 30 minutes.

It bothers me sometimes how much we go on about Irish heroes. Y'know punching above our weight and so on.

But Thin Lizzy really were exceptional.

Ever hear Bon Jovi's Boys are back in town from the Navy Seals soundtrack? It's not quite the same!

Yeah, it's amazing. Apparently, the story of Eruption - the song that gave finger tapping to the world - is that the producer heard Eddie warming up, recorded it, and added a few drum fills and a tiny few backing chords, and the song that inspired thousands of guitar players was born.

What would Frank think, if he was still with us.

there's the much hated BBC TOTP Orchestra.

A Union agreement meant they had to perform the backing track for some of the 'live' TOTP performances at the time.

They messed up some great songs, but their time was short - they were kicked off the show in 1980/.
