    Much Thanks

Another less quick question if you will, can you take me through the process of restoring the pillar trim and removing the oxidation?

    Mask
    Polish
    Seal

That's all, I used a DA and a green lake country spot pad.

Madly impressed with that work on the Mini, James. Congrats!

Can I ask what you used on everything once you took the wheel off? (from the rust on the brakes to the filth on the spring)?

You must be coating everything black with something.. it all looks so new...?

    :) Thanks.

Wheels off, I rinsed the arch liners then spray TFR on and washed off for the calipers i used acid cleaner and a wire brush to remove rust.

For the wheels i cleaned, de-tared, used fallout remover and sealed them.

It really makes a difference to the over all appearance in my opinion.

So I got my 08 silver avensis two weeks ago. This is the first day I got time to go to work on it. Did the following on it
Washed with AutoGlym Shampoo (two bucket method with Meguiars microfibre mit)
Washed wheels with a sponge and the remaining wash water.
Dried with Autoglym Aqua dry chamois
Clay bar with Meguiars clay bar kit
Got rid of some small patches of handcream/suncream finger prints with AutoGlym Super Resin Polish( well impressed with how effective this was)
Sealed it all up with Meguiars Gold Class Wax
Glass (inside and out) with Meguiars Glass Cleaner
Final Buff with AutoGlym High Tech Finishing Cloth

I was at it for about 2 hours. Had help for the waxing which sped it up alot but well impressed with the results!!! My last car gave me nothing but trouble so I had no love for it so I never cleaned it like this so its about two years since I did anything like this!!

I had forgotten how satisfying it can be!!!

ive noticed im getting a few long deep scratches from the lambswool mit im using, i use the two bucket method with grit guards, but ive noticed long quite deep scratches which have been casued by the lambswool mit, ive looked through it and no signs of grit and i always rinse it thoroughly after each detailing session, what mits do you guys use? or any tips to prevent this

Meguiars MicroFibre mit. I've never had any problems with it.

Tell me more about grit guards I've never used them or heard of them so how do they work and where do you get them?

i got mine from cleancar literally just a circular bit of plastic as such picture shows it better http://www.cleancar.ie/gritguard.html, idea is you wipe mit along guard each time to loosen dirt it should then in theory fall to bottom of bucket

I had a bitta time and it was a fine evening so I started with the intention of cleaning brake dust and ended up giving the arches a good clean. Only had time for one side today but fairly happy at both how the lack of rust was in there (my car is 24 years old and driven daily) and how clean they came out after a bit of elbow grease

Anyone here using Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer?

Any thoughts? Seems to be liked in general, but to varying levels (some saying it's alright, others saying they wouldn't be without it, etc.)?

i keep a bottle in the boot, with a clean cloth in a bag, to deal with bird po.op and such stuff, but at that price i don't think i would be using it to clean the entire car..

I have these little spots in my glass and was wondering if there isn't I can do to remove them. Mostly on the windscreen it would seem. Would using AG glass polish on it first help?

What kind of spots? Is your car going through puberty?? :D

It certainly wouldn't do any harm anyway - post back with more details on these spots if it doesn't work.

They are not clear to the naked eye but when I drove after cleaning the car, and when I picked it up I noticed them

Are they tiny stone chips or maybe even spots from dried rainwater?

Not sure but I cleaned it with glass polish and finished off with some hydrophobe. Will check it out when I take it for a spin in a while.
Can't wait to get the wheel woollies though as my alloys are filthy, thinking I might be better off taking the wheels off to clean them?

Can anybody suggest a decent cloth for drying the car? All the ones I use leave bits of fluff and dust on the car..

Drying towel is what you need.

I've found the Kent drying towels to be just as good as an expensive one.

    See Post #24 here.

The best thing to do is to remove them and give them a through scrub including Iron Cleanse and tar removal. Then give them a coat of Gtechniq C5/C1 or Chemical Guys Wheel guard followed by Collinite. This will give them a radiant shine and protection which will last ages and make them incredibly easy to clean until it wears off. Make it last longer by using shampoo to clean the wheels rather than a wheel cleaner.

Thanks - I must try that out. Started to rain now so I got it all done before it did. Pretty pleased
