Great to meet you on Sunday RR. Training looks to be going great for you. Keep it nice and steady for a few more weeks and see you in London.

This is my mantra for the next couple of weeks. Basically - don't f*ck it up now! Well done - you're on a really good run of form and I recently read back over your full log. Jesus you deserve a good day out in London after your issues leading up to Dublin last year. I'll be erring on the side of caution after this weeks session I can tell you. :)

Thanks Beef. You must have slept well after reading my full log !:D
Yeah I could do with a break alright but thanks to some great advice received on here from lots of quarters things have improved immensely in my training and injury management. You got it bang on. For next three weeks I need to be a rock of sense ( not usually in my nature as I can be very impulsive at times). I'll settle for a big mileage week this week with nothing but easy miles and no major niggles.

Likewise P...always good to add another face to a boards name. You looked like you were running well yourself in Balbriggan too. Look forward to meeting you again in London.

Easy run home from work this evening. Legs still feel a bit battered after Monday's session so stuck to the grass along the coast as much as possible.

    Thursday 20th March

Rested. Was feeling pretty tired o felt a rest day was the best option today.

    Friday 21st March

My final race pack arrived for London today. Woohoo!

Planned an easy run home from work today. Was feeling good and was looking forward to trying out the new shoes. The extra bounce in the shoe felt great and legs felt fresher after the rest yesterday so went with the flow and didn't look at the watch much and just made sure the effort didn't feel too much more than easy. Did just under 8 miles with 6 miles in the steady range. Shoes worked felt good on the feet and got well and truly christened in the lashing rain on the way.

    7.95 miles @ 8:59avg

When we moved into our current house almost 6 years ago my father had taken very ill. We had to do a lot of work to the house and although he visited once despite being very poorly he never got to see the house in its finished state. After he died we planted a tree in the front garden in his memory. It was about year later that I made a decision to take up running with a goal to run a marathon to raise some money for the Irish Cancer Society. I haven't looked back since in terms of running. That tree since it was planted never bloomed and we wondered would we ever see a flower on that tree. The other day flowers appeared for the very first time.
Sentimental as it may be, I'm taking this as a sign. Good things come to those that wait.

Did I by any chance spot you running through city centre at 5:15? Crossing over at lights from BOI College Green? Shorts, hat? Was about to shout out "Redrunner"!

That's a lovely story about the tree and your dad and very fitting that the tree is blooming just in time for London:) Great things indeed ahead for you and well deserved too.

    Saturday 22nd March

Easy run on a blustery morning. Effort was easy but pace was a lot faster than planned or thought it was during the run.

5.83miles @ 2:47avg (No that's not a typo, that's what GarminConnect says!. That's really starting to annoy me now)

Pace was actually about 8:50 I'd say. It didn't feel like anything more than 9:20 pace though but maybe that is just a by product of the good training recently?

Nice to get through the 500 mile barrier in March!:):)

Sunday 23rd March- LSR 22 miles with some MP Miles

Tentative plan was to try 10 easy, 10 MP and 2 to cool down. I say tentative because wasn't sure if I could do that many MP miles after a tiring enough week. I'd do as many as I could and sure I couldn't do them all, no big deal. Main aim was to get through today in one piece, it being my last 20+ run before London.

I thought this strategy might be good too as it might replicate a slower start in London with the congestion early on and then speeding up later in race. Packed three gels and a salt tab and carried a 500ml bottle of water with me for this one.

Went from house into Dublin city centre and out to Merrion gates as I figured that'd give me about 10 before I turned for home and the faster miles. Had to stop at Connolly station to use the facilities and then at about 9 miles I had to stop and help this lady who fell off her bike. It was actually quite funny (only because she wasn't hurt of course:)) because I could see her ahead of me trying to stop and lean against a big tree but she didn't quite make it and because she couldn't release her shoe from the pedal she just went over á la Del Boy style in the wine bar episode. Hilarious!

Good Samaritan deed done for the day. Hopefully good Karma to come my way soon!

    First ten miles: 9:05,9;13,9:20,9:16,9:33.8:23:confused:,9:57,9:23,9:05,8:45

Just after ten mile mark decide to stop for a second and take a slat tab and my second gel. Took one at 5 also to try replicate plan for big day. THen off I went to try out the MP miles. Just deided to go for it and see how long I would last. It went really well in the end though I was thankful to see the watch hit the 20 mile mark so I could slow down.

    MP miles: 8:21,8:12,8:13,8:00,8:18,8:21,8:20,8:20,8:28,8:14

Delighted with that as most of them are actually faster than MP. Tough work but I'm sure that'll stand well to me come April 13th.

Shuffled home for last two and a bit : 10:13,9:21,(8:51)

    22.21 miles @ 8:49avg Time on feet: 3:16:27

    Happy Out!:D

Highest mileage week eva! 66 miles

That's great work, you're in great shape. Just keep it on the fairway from here on in no risks....
I said to you after Balbriggan that there was probably no need to do MP miles today ;) However since you have I would cut back on the Midweek MP session now (cap at 10),or if you want a sharpener you could try something like 2 x 3 miles @ HMP or 3 x 2k @ 10k pace. You have all the hard work done now, all you have to do is get to the startline sharp and healthy.

Thanks...yes I know you said that but I reckoned if I could get some done today I would reduce Wednesdays session mp miles. So since you are recommending that I'll listen to you this time ;-)

I think I'll be more than happy with 8-10 mp miles midweek.

Don't get me wrong, the fact that you got it done is excellent :D

That sounds like a great plan for midweek, I see you are learning ;)

Any plans for next weekend? I few of us 'southsider's' ;) are maybe gonna run over to Raheny and do the park run on saturday. I'll pace you to sub 20 if you want :)

    Monday 24th March

Easy run at lunchtime in the wind and rain. Felt kind of refreshing though and the legs felt in decent shape after yesterday. A couple of muscle twinges here and there but nothing to worry about. Some rolling and stretching will be done tonight.

    Tuesday 25th March

Easy run home from work. Luckily escaped the showers and it was a very pleasant evening for running.

Had a funny sensation in my right foot on the way home like it was going numb or something. It was the same kind of feeling when your leg goes to sleep, weird but it passed pretty quickly.

    Wednesday 26th March

So plan had 14 miles @MP. As already discussed with Meno there was no need for that and I went out tonight with a laid back attitude towards the run, saying I'd be happy with 8MP miles if I could manage it.

Did 4 warmup miles easy pace: 9:36,9:41, 9:08,9:00

When it came to the first couple of MP miles there was a bit of a headwind so if I wasn't hitting the pace I wasn't going to sweat it. Kept the effort at what I thought it should be and didn't really look at the watch.

Got into a decent rhythm then and just counted off the MP miles each time I completed one and looked upon each one as a bonus into my bank of training. Kept it going till I had my 8 done . At that stage I felt I had done enough. THe body is tired after the last ten days work so no need to push it out to 14 tonight.

    MP Miles were: 8:48,8:25,8:18,8:02,8:12,8:10,8:11,8:05

    Cool down of 0.62@9:22

That was my last hardish session before London so very satisfied with how it went. Luvvly jubbly!:D
