Thought he died in a plane crash?

You are thinking of American singing legend JOHN DENVER who died in 1997 in a plane crash. Other than the same last name, there is no relation between him and the guy I mentioned.

Mike Denver is an Irish one man 'boyband-folk' for want of a better term star who is a product of Louis Walsh's influence. Him and his kind of music are on every local radio station and on TG4's Glor Tire programme and now are even seeping into RTE's TV shows as well.

For a country that produced folk legends like Luke Kelly, The Dubliners, Planxty, Christy Moore and others, the success of Mike Denver's watered down variety is a shame. Irish music though in general has never been so poorly supported and only the very crass cheesy pop gets through most of the time. The affore mentioned legends of Irish music did not make it through The Voice of Ireland, Glor Tire, or any of these other platforms where today's so called stars are spawned and religiously nurtured by the powers that be.

Westlife, Mike Denver, Jedward, Nathan Carter and other acts are thrown on us from time to time until they are then discarded when it suits as well (Jedward). As much as I loath Denver's brand of music, he and others like him are merely playing a game and are told what to sing and what to play and how. The Irish music industry controls all this. They also decide who is to be popular and for how long. Jedward are decidedly gone and I even notice now that my old pal Denver and the related 3 piece folk boy band called The Three Amigos is being shafted in favour of another 'boyband folkstar' in Nathan Carter. It is sad Luke Kelly is no longer with us but I can only imagine what he would think of Irish boyband folk and he is lucky never to have heard it.
