The cloth interior in the Safrane my brother had was quite nice tbh.

I think your right though - leather suits them a lot better - however that's far from been something unique to the Safrane.

Nice cars tbh if you get a good one - my brothers though was pretty reliable in all fairness.

Don't think much went wrong in the 60,000 miles he had it

Mine was owned up until I got it at 9 years old by a high court judge. The only thing it didn't have was the sat nav. But tbh a sat nav from the late 90's was pretty useless anyway. Reg was 97D97 it had the ergonomic pack and all. (row of buttons on the 2 front seats that let you inflate different parts to mould the seat to you. Bolsters , lumbar, front of the base, sides of the base) It was the business. The one I know of at the minute has it too.

Yeah, mines 03 and it's 163. Still plenty of poke, averages 47/48 mpg, and fully loaded.

Hmm tell me, how would they be with a baby, and a fully loaded boot?
Space compromised in the back much?

The boot space is fine, I usually have a load of boxes and stuff for work in there. More info on old thread here

Legroom in the back is no better or worse than the likes of a 3 series/A4 of similar vintage. I have a 2.5 year old and the only issue I have is the back door opening is pretty narrow because of the big slope on the roofline (see below), so I need to be careful not to concuss the child when I'm putting her into the child seat :D

Are they not 163 as well as the S60?

Older ones are yeah. I think around 2006 or so they got upped to 182. Her 141 has 215 :D

Nice and clean but 1600 seems like mental money.

I remember these but they didn't seem to be as popular as any other Carina even when current. Apart from the styling was there any other reason?

A bit overpriced, but its got 5 months tax and test and its damn cool. I'm sure a bit of haggling can be done.

I dunno really, I guess the styling really turned a lot off of it.

I always thought there was plenty of them around tbh

One thing that wouldn't have helped their cause is that the Mk 1 and 2 Camrys would have had a certain amount of popularity - so sales that should have been Carina II sales would have been lost to the Camry.

On the styling - I always thought the liftback looked nice enough tbh - and the rear headrests that were fitted on the liftback. (unusual at the time) were a nice touch.

From what I remember of them - they were VERY reliable cars, quite comfy and nicely trimmed inside.

Those carina II were great cars. They oozed of quality, from the hard wearing interior to the robust and very well designed mechanicals.

The styling mightnt be to every ones tastes but I for one love it, well in a retro sort of way :)

tbh these were the foundation of toyotas excellent reputation. If only Toyota was still making them like they used to :(

That Jaguar was €999 only a few days ago! I was wondering why it was so cheap? It must be in bits!

This is slightly over bangernomics but its a one owner car with supposedly a full service history. The boot does look off color but I reckon its only a shadow at the angle the pic was taken.

If that's the car I'm thinking of then I've seen it around Ballincollig a fair bit. The lad driving it seems to know his stuff about cars so I'd say it was well taken car of.

    I'd say €400 buys that 626. And that's a steal.
