For me its not actually anyone currently playing today.

I get a pain in my face listening to people talking about Rory Gallagher and Phil Lynott and the like. People completely over-mystify them, almost deify them as artists. They were slightly above average, but because they died young, people make out like they were the greatest people to ever pick up a guitar. Its daft.

Jimi Hendrix once referred to Rory as the greatest guitarist think that says it all really

Jimi Hendrix another man seen as a God because he kicked the bucket early.

People get extremely upset and defensive if you say you don't like Gallagher's stuff. I never understand why that is.

Well, he's not doing much at the moment, but just wait a couple of months for the new U2 album...

I avoid the music channels on Radio and TV because most new music today is more likely to bore me than annoy me. The ones that do annoy me when I hear them are what I call the "foghorns": female vocalists whose voices have only one level: LOUD.

The prime example is Adele, who I can't stand, but there are others whose names I don't know. Florence is part-way there, but her "landfill indie" Machine is even more annoying, they do her no favours at all.

There was a song out by the Wanted a couple of years ago with the chorus "She can't sing, she can't dance. But who cares, she walks like Rihanna" which I think is an unintentionally apt description of the pop music scene today.

All about looks and quirkiness rather than actual music talent (from what I can see).

Maybe it's how people voice their opinion that annoys fans of certain bands/artists/music. There's a massive difference between saying you don't like something and saying something is ****/average/overrated.

That said, I cringe every time I hear that Passenger lad. It's usually when I'm standing in a queue or something like that. Can't stick that vocal style at all.

Don't think anything in the last 10 years has caught my ear and had me listen. Of course there is the odd band or album that makes me take notice, but I'm safe in saying on par the quality of music had died a ****ing death since the start of the 2000's.

I've a pretty wide range in terms of what I listen to. Every Monday into work and home I listen to the latest A State of Trance podcast. In terms of what I've gone through this week in the car.

    A State of Trance
    Ellie Goulding
    Gary Numan
    Slipknot
    Prince
    David Bowie

Some things I listen to over and over again, Prince, David Bowie, Adam and the Ants, some heavy metal bands, and a few personally made playlists get the constant listen. There's plenty more to be fair, I could barely narrow it down. I was listening to the RTE Orchestra playing Danny Elfman movie tracks during the week aswell in the car.

But I find genuinely nothing that plays on the radio of interest. All seems garbage to me.

If I had to pick two things out at the moment that absolute make me feel some form of anger when I hear it, it's Original Rudeboys and Kodaline.

There's your problem. You shouldn't rely on the radio to find new interesting music. The internet has made it easier than ever before to find new music. I don't listen to the radio at all but I've found a lot of great modern music through looking online.

Well to be fair the radio was always a way for me to find new music, or hear a track that maybe sparked my interest. Like not just me driving, when I'd be driving around by parents or maybe in a relatives car when I was younger.

I remember first time I heard prince was coming back from a football match in a friends Dads car, massive Prince fan, and I was hooked instantly.

When I'm on the Pc, I'm normally playing a game, with the music of choice playing in the background. I've enough back catalogue of stuff that I tend not to bother my hole looking for new stuff, I figure there probably isnt that much stuff out there.

I've a circle of friends with good tastes in music aswell, and I cant remember the last time someone recommended me a new band, or artist. The vibe from my circle is just sticking with the old stuff.

The only new stuff that I tend to hear is from various trance podcasts or playlists. But that scene is pretty vibrant at the moment so there is alot of good up and coming DJ's out there.

I agree with OP, Jessie fcukin J couldn't sing to save her life. She's absolutely crap beyond belief and to be honest is a bit of a minger. God knows why any recoding company took her on!

I can understand that but you should give it a go. You might be surprised at what you might find. There's honestly so much great modern music out there that I think there's something for everyone.

I don't know if you like psychedelic music but Tame Impala are the kind of modern band that I'd recommend to anyone. I think they're great and I think they'd kinda appeal to people who'd usually only like older rock music.

Have you ever listened to his first few albums? songs like I Fall Apart exhibit his amazing song writing abilities, I actually think he's under rated in that regard, a lot of people think he's just a great blues guitarist but his talent goes a lot further than that. I'd consider him and Kevin Shields to be the most talented musicians this country have ever had.

Anyone slating Kanye should give a few of his records a spin, some great stuff there, especially College Dropout and the last 2 albums. In years to come Yeezus is going to be remembered as one of the most important albums of our generation. I think his personality puts people off his music but it really shouldn't, it's not like he's the only famous musician that comes across as a bollox!

As for most irritating, I'd put Avicii, David Guetta, etc in that category. The majority of commercial dance music is absolute tripe and for me represents the most detestable aspects of the music industry.

Jimi Hendrix was acknowledged as being a guitar genius during his life so it is not because he died early that people love his music. He really did change music in the late sixties and is still a huge influence to many musicians.

See here for one explanation. The kind of bulk, faceless mass-produced, disposable Indie that was around 10-15 years ago, that's what I'm reminded of.

That kian Egan chancer was the worst singer I ever heard - he was live on the Late Late show and got slated.

I believe it's mostly associated with a group of British indie bands from the last decade that were generic and had nothing special about them. A few examples would be The Pigeon Detectives, The Enemy, The View, Hard-Fi. I suppose that's all subjective.

    http://whatculture.com/music/10-astounding-albums-landfill-indie-bands-00s.php/11

I would disagree with a chunk of the above article and would argue that a landfill indie band wouldn't have the capacity to release an "astounding album". Wouldn't consider Friendly Fires, Bloc Party, Maximo Park etc landfill indie as they are good bands and too interesting and dynamic to be lumped into this category.
