Since I arrived in the Uk a short time ago, all I seem to hear on the wireless is England's answer to to pop 'singer' Pink, Jessie J...Good jesus her voice goes through me enough to start a thread about it. Was pop music always this bad? She is an example of what's wrong with it, blandness and going over the top to overcompensate lack of talent. On tv I've seen her carry on with this faux 'attitude'. To me she is an example of disposable music, minimum input, maximum gain, Record companies clean up as its fed to the masses lapping it up.Just one crappy, thrown together song after the other. Rant over

    Bill aka Will.i.am

Bad enough listening to his songs, the fact that someone keeps paying him for the opportunity to be an authority on any topic or latest trend is a joke.

Grabbing as much cash as he can until he is no longer beyond relevancy.

oh i know... this is why she's annoying - she's claiming this title because her latest "album" was so sh!t musically, that she had to promote it as a "visual album".

me hole is more visual after a guinness dump!!

For the most part probably yes, though the loudness wars have added an extra layer of awfulness to most music. In the 50s, 60s & 70s - generally thought nowadays as a high point in Western music there were just as many disposable acts if not more than there are now. A possible difference is that there were some astonishingly good artists to balance that out, even if not that many people were listening to them at the time. It's hard to think of any acts of recent times that would come close to the Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin at their best. At the time of course they had to compete with dross like the Bay City Rollers etc. To sum up: the musical lows have probably always been as low but currently the highs are not nearly as high as they could be.

Marcus Mumford from Mumford and Sons.

She needs to appeal to the plebs to sell records..kinda similar to the way the celebs ate pizza at the oscars, a simple but effective stategy.

That's not competition, they were just aimed at different market sectors.

I heard something funny on radio last week. Host was saying Bono thinks he is a politician and Enda thinks he is a rock star. :)

My nomination BTW is Coldplay. Shocking band live and he named his kid Apple. Man I hate that band.
