What are peoples opinion of this song that we'll have to endure

Of all the things humanity has endured down the ages, a two minute ditty composed for a team organised on an all island basis is not one of them.

    Jesus. H. Christ Almighty.

I feel almost sorry for the unionist players.
The team after-all is meant to represent the two communities and the IRFU had an agreement that when there was an internation on in the 6 counties that GSTQ would be played.

However, the IRFU conviently changed that rule once Ireland played Italy a few years ago in a pre World Cup friendly in Ravenhill.

Well, since our anthem is a dirge that would appall many of the other teams (or even our own players) were they capable of understanding it, it kind of goes without saying that we need a different song for an all-island Rugby team. While it's about on a par with Wonderwalll in terms of sophistication, personally, I quite like Ireland's Call.

The tricolour is possibly the least imaginative flag in the world and thanks to the IRA it's pretty much synonymous with terrorism so probably for the best if we dropped it altogether.

It's 2014, OP, most of us weren't alive during the civil war and, tbh, quite a lot of us would rather worry about it's future than get maudlin about an idealised version of it's past...

    Yeah,it really makes me mad.

If you despise rugby and get a bit hot under the collar with players not singing songs, then you probably shouldn't watch it. Go outside for a walk or something.

    What?

Just wondering where you've been for the last 10 years while this topic has been done to death here numerous times.

Unless this thread gets locked soon, here's whats gonna happen.

The nutcase rebel song whistling freedom fighters will join in and demand that Amhrainn na bFiann be reinstated as the one true anthem.

Then the bowler hat and brolly brigade will counter by demanding that our international rugby team should swear allegiance to The Queen.

The whole thing will decsend into a shítstorm over 800 years of misery and woe and flegs over Belfast City Hall and eventually the thread will be locked after multiple bans have been dished out.

If this is the sort of thing that gets you so worked up you must have very few problems in life.

I go to most Irish rugby matches at home and am a Leinster supporter.
I sing both anthems loud and proud when I hear them.

I am delighted we have a team which, amongst other things, does something positive in the North like bringing the two communities together under one team. I'll tell you something - we'd be a lot less successful without Tommy Bowe, Andrew Trimble and Rory Best. These guys are a credit to Ireland, North and South.

All the people who say our players don't perform because we have 2 anthems are talking nonsense.

Tommy Bowe isn't from the north so he's irrelevant.
Personally I just think if Ireland is playing a match our anthem and flag should be there. In Paris there'll be neither.
