Definitely. Played it about a month ago. As always it was in perfect nick. Bring your putting boots :-) The greens were lightning fast and very tricky. Its a fabulous course and well worth 35 euros.

It's hard to pick a weak hole on it. Index 1 comes very early...second hole.

And the stretch of 10,11 and 12 are great holes. Especially 11 and 12. 11 is a par 4 with water all up the left, kind of reminds you of the 18th at Sawgrass :-) And 12 is the signature par5 hole, again with water all up the left.

    Enjoy.

Would you consider it tough in general ?
    How forgiving off tee ?

I concur with the above comments. I played in a pro-am there and I was so surprised by the course, I had heard it was good but it was way better than I thought. It is not ridicolously tough, it's a fair course but every hole makes you think and there are some brilliant golf holes on it.

    Definitely worth a visit.

If you hit the fairways you have a good chance (like most courses!!). I found that there is trouble at the landing area of the tee shots on most holes if you are missing on either side.

As mentioned above it's not ridiculously tough and wont beat you up but you need to think about your shots and try to put the ball in the right place.

Make sure to check where the pin is on the third hole (I think it's the 3rd). It's a split level green and if the pin is on the front and you are on the back...I doubt you can stay on the green with your first putt!!

Yep, concur with that SR is a great course, good hotel & golf clubhouse too, think that stretch of holes is 11-13, 11 is a wee par 3 over water & 12,13 as u describe.
    35€ is good value

You're right. 10 is the par 4 down by the driving range, and 11 is the par 3. Then it's into Sawgrass :-)

Anyone know why they got rid of the mature trees that flanked the left hand side of the 8th fairway? In my opinion they've ruined what was a good golf hole.

Nice course it must be said, anytime ive played its been in great condition and certainly worth the fee. 3rd hole gets my vote as favourite. Also there is a par 3 course there that might be worth a look although i've never played it.

I really like it too, good variety of hole types, lovely countryside, a good test of golf.

Rather then start a new thread I wondered has anyone played the Slieve Russell recently and what type of nick is it in?

I'm down there this coming weekend but with the recent wet weather I'm wondering will it be worth the journey, 2 hours each way. I doubt the course is in as good of nick since being in the hands of NAMA. The course always in tiptop shape when Sean Quinn was about. Would be a massive shame if this place ever closes.

Played a few weeks ago. Soft in spots but course as good as ever. Greens had been pencil tined a week or so before and rolling great.

Cheers the course normally never lets me down but that said I never played it November - March so was a little in the dark.

They normally made yearly changes to the course in years gone back but I'm not sure if they have made any recent changes...

I ask again, due out there for a family thing in two weeks. How has the place held up with wet months of January & February?

This place is one of my favourites, new road has made getting there a dream from North Dublin. If it was in Kells/Navan I'd seriously consider joining!

Interested to hear the response on this, I like the course, but have only played in summer, even it was quite boggy in parts

I played it on 18 January, after basically 30 days of constant rain, and it was still in very good condition; playing off full tees and greens. Some minor boggy areas around paths (not that this would worry you), and I can only think of one drive (the 2nd) that came to a complete stop: everything else had bounce. I'd imagine after the recent drier spell that it's in top nick now.

By the way, this is a fantastic golf course. One of the best I've played. It's a better course than Lough Erne imho.
